Once we have moved on from those hot summer days, it will also be time to move on from the cute and pretty floral dresses onto something a little more grown up and a lot more glamorous. This autumn and winter glamour will be be a key factor influencing all sorts of trends from show stopping evening wear to ladylike silhouettes from yesteryear. Fashion will be taking its ques from historical looks especially the mid calf length skirts of the fifties and Dior inspired nipped in waists. Think pearls and twin sets, assymetrical maxi length dresses inspired by the disco era and very flattering t dresses. These clothes are from times when ladies made a real effort with what they wore, long before the casual look of jeans and t shirts.

The beauty of these new and glamorous looks for the autumn and winter is that they look great on everyway. These styles were made to flatter an array of different body shapes and make them feel and look good. The fifties style was a result of women craving glamour, luxury and lots of fabric after the war when everything was rationed and the make do and mend attitude reined. Another key element to the seasons glamorous look is good  quality winter coats in luxurious fabrics. Seventies disco glamour is also big this season with a big the resurgence of the famous Halston label being a key influence.

On the autumn winter catwalks there was certainly an emphasis of style over fashio. Louis Vuitton and Marc Jacobs led the way in grown up glamour with mid calf length skirts worn with kitten heels and ankle socks. Prada also revisited a number of shapes from the archives including the a line skirt which was worn with fitted style tops, for once a fashion that celebrates the feminine figure and makes the most of curves. Dolce and Gabbana worked the glamour in their own unique way with lace, corsets and tuxedo’s all featuring.

But glamour is not just about the clothes that you where but also about how you accessorise your outfits. Glamour usually includes texture, shine and sparkle. You can achieve grown up glamour with a great black dress accessorised to perfection with a sparkling necklace, shiny shoes and a glossy clutch bag. Think also about how you do your hair. Grown up glamour is all about elaborate up do’s, which can be a little time consuming to do but then who said that being glamorous was going to be easy!

It may still be the middle of summer, but it never harms to look a bit ahead and plan for the season ahead. Any clothes that you buy now could last not only through the summer and into the autumn but also into to the winter if chosen carefully. Buying clothes that can be worn from one season to another is an art. It will save you money and allow you to build a really versatile wardrobe but you will need to consider carefully what you buy. Firstly the clothing should be adaptable for the huge range of temperatures that you are likely to experience from the summer into the winter, it should also look quite appropriate for the season and finally if you are fashion conscious, you should seek out trends that are likely to continue into the coming seasons allowing you to always look on trend and fashionable.

Depending on the piece of clothing that you choose, you can usually adapt it for the colder weather with the addition of tights, leggings, scarfs, boots and cardigans. It is worth thinking about colours as some colours will work well with warm opaque black tights others will not . Generally lighter colours are more difficult to wear in the winter but this is not  a rule. The clever addition of patterned or coloured tights and a brightly coloured cardigan can transform a floral summer dress. The thickness of clothing is also an important consideration when deciding which outfits will take you into autumn and winter 2010. A medium thickness will tend to work well for both summer and winter. Anything too thin or flimsy may look a little strange in the middle of winter. Jersey pieces are excellent as they can be worn on their own in the summer or layered for extra warmth and an interesting effect in the autumn and winter.

There are a number of key trends that will be sticking around for autumn and winter and these include neutrals, animal prints, lace and draping. There are also plenty of classic items that look great no matter what is in fashion including shift dresses, cropped cardigans and tailored jackets. These will not only last into winter this year but will also last for many seasons to come. Shift dresses are ideal for wearing with a long sleeved top underneath or with a cardigan and tights.

We all have off days when we wish we didnâ??t have to get out of bed or when we just feel really miserable. On these days it can be easy to fall into the trap of wearing safe clothes that we feel comfortable in. Whilst comfort is no bad thing and ideally all of our clothes should be comfortable, they can also be stylish and look amazing. There is no need to every wear drab, boring or unattractive clothes at all. Even if you are hardly going to leave the house, getting a bit dressed up or making a bit of effort with what you are wearing will instantly make you feel happier and more confident.

Dress for your shape

Picking just the right clothes for your shape will not only make you look better but also make you feel better. Dressing for your shape is all about making everything appear in proportion no matter what your size. The trick to dressing for your shape is hiding or disguising the parts that you dislike and highlighting or drawing attention to the parts that you like. There are plenty of ways that you can do this be it wide hips, a round tummy or a small bust that you want to compliment. There are lots of books on the subject and you can also find lots of articles online about how to choose the right clothes for your body shape. As a general rule, use colour and pattern to highlight areas and fitted clothes in dark colours to disguise areas that you do not like or that appear out of proportion.

Find your best colours

Colour is probably the most important aspect in choosing clothes that make you feel like a million dollars. Some colours will make your complexion really glow whilst others will make you look pale or drained. There will be a range of different colours that look great on you and all you need to do is find these colours. There are a number of tricks used by stylists to work out which colours people should wear. This includes looking at their skin tone and matching warm colours like red, orange and yellow to a warm skin tone and cooler colours like blue, purple and pink to a cooler skin tone. The stronger the contrast between hair and skin colour, the brighter the colours that will tend to look best on you. You could also try looking for celebrity with a similar colouring to yourself and see what colours she wears on the red carpet.

Add the finishing touches to your outfit

Accessories are the finishing touch to any outfit. They can also be a style statement in their own right. Choosing the right accessories for your outfit is key in looking good every day of the week. Have your accessories stored in an organised way so that you can easily see what you have got and pick out what to wear each day.

For the uninitiated without an eye for style, the world of fashion can be a vast and sometimes scary arena.  Women commonly spend far too much time with their heads in their closets, fashion magazines or better yet panic buying.  If you are like many woman in todayâ??s society and simply  don’t have time between a hard day at work, changing nappies or generally dodging obstacles that life throws at us, and the idea of flipping through page after page of fashion magazines, trail the aisles of trendy stores is a distant student life memory,  fret not!

Here are some handy tips and tricks that may help you decide what to have in your wardrobe year after year, season after season:

  • Above all, your clothes should fit your body. No one cares what size is on your tag. A good fit is essential to presenting a polished image and, more importantly, feeling great in your clothes.
    • Women’s clothing sizes vary hugely from designer, style, year, and even within a brand. If you can’t tell Donatella from Donald Duck just stick to what you know! After all, the high street stores and online boutique like Roman Originals tend to have all the current designs without the hefty price tag.
    • Shop like a man:  I know this may seem a bizarre statement, but consider buying multiples of items if you find a great fit. Especially when it comes to undergarments and in particular jeans.
    • Splurge on timeless classics, skimp on trends. Classic evening wear or an everyday coats are generally worth spending a little more money on.
    • If you’re most comfortable in a solid fitted dress shirt, buy several! If it’s a staple to your wardrobe, you should splurge on a well fitted, well made, quality item. You can make the same white button down look like a totally different shirt with an inexpensive cardigan, a pair of jeans, or jewellery.
    • If you’ve got no fashion instinct whatsoever, you can still have a cohesive collection of stylish clothing:
      • Put together an outfit that you feel really defines you. If you’re a cheerful person, try bright colours. If you’re low key, comfort clothes. Artistic? Try untraditional cuts or play with different patterns, and so on.
      • Once you’ve created your outfit, think about why it defines you. What is it that you like so much? The way the different colours look together? The variety of fabrics? The simplicity?
      • Whatever it is that makes you love that outfit should guide your shopping. Look for clothes that share these qualities and you’ll end up with a style of your own and a wardrobe that you love.
      • If shopping online, try on the clothes before you decide to keep them. Don’t be afraid to send clothing back.
      • Alternately, try clothes on in stores and then bargain shop online for those exact styles and sizes.
      • Don’t make rushed decisions. Shop with a level head and a list of needs, this way you’ll avoid making returns and ruining your finances.
