It may still be the middle of summer, but it never harms to look a bit ahead and plan for the season ahead. Any clothes that you buy now could last not only through the summer and into the autumn but also into to the winter if chosen carefully. Buying clothes that can be worn from one season to another is an art. It will save you money and allow you to build a really versatile wardrobe but you will need to consider carefully what you buy. Firstly the clothing should be adaptable for the huge range of temperatures that you are likely to experience from the summer into the winter, it should also look quite appropriate for the season and finally if you are fashion conscious, you should seek out trends that are likely to continue into the coming seasons allowing you to always look on trend and fashionable.

Depending on the piece of clothing that you choose, you can usually adapt it for the colder weather with the addition of tights, leggings, scarfs, boots and cardigans. It is worth thinking about colours as some colours will work well with warm opaque black tights others will not . Generally lighter colours are more difficult to wear in the winter but this is not  a rule. The clever addition of patterned or coloured tights and a brightly coloured cardigan can transform a floral summer dress. The thickness of clothing is also an important consideration when deciding which outfits will take you into autumn and winter 2010. A medium thickness will tend to work well for both summer and winter. Anything too thin or flimsy may look a little strange in the middle of winter. Jersey pieces are excellent as they can be worn on their own in the summer or layered for extra warmth and an interesting effect in the autumn and winter.

There are a number of key trends that will be sticking around for autumn and winter and these include neutrals, animal prints, lace and draping. There are also plenty of classic items that look great no matter what is in fashion including shift dresses, cropped cardigans and tailored jackets. These will not only last into winter this year but will also last for many seasons to come. Shift dresses are ideal for wearing with a long sleeved top underneath or with a cardigan and tights.

We all have off days when we wish we didnâ??t have to get out of bed or when we just feel really miserable. On these days it can be easy to fall into the trap of wearing safe clothes that we feel comfortable in. Whilst comfort is no bad thing and ideally all of our clothes should be comfortable, they can also be stylish and look amazing. There is no need to every wear drab, boring or unattractive clothes at all. Even if you are hardly going to leave the house, getting a bit dressed up or making a bit of effort with what you are wearing will instantly make you feel happier and more confident.

Dress for your shape

Picking just the right clothes for your shape will not only make you look better but also make you feel better. Dressing for your shape is all about making everything appear in proportion no matter what your size. The trick to dressing for your shape is hiding or disguising the parts that you dislike and highlighting or drawing attention to the parts that you like. There are plenty of ways that you can do this be it wide hips, a round tummy or a small bust that you want to compliment. There are lots of books on the subject and you can also find lots of articles online about how to choose the right clothes for your body shape. As a general rule, use colour and pattern to highlight areas and fitted clothes in dark colours to disguise areas that you do not like or that appear out of proportion.

Find your best colours

Colour is probably the most important aspect in choosing clothes that make you feel like a million dollars. Some colours will make your complexion really glow whilst others will make you look pale or drained. There will be a range of different colours that look great on you and all you need to do is find these colours. There are a number of tricks used by stylists to work out which colours people should wear. This includes looking at their skin tone and matching warm colours like red, orange and yellow to a warm skin tone and cooler colours like blue, purple and pink to a cooler skin tone. The stronger the contrast between hair and skin colour, the brighter the colours that will tend to look best on you. You could also try looking for celebrity with a similar colouring to yourself and see what colours she wears on the red carpet.
