Much of the UK is covered in snow today or has at least had some snow and is experiencing temperatures in the minus figures. At first the snow is great fun but after a while it can start to lose its appeal. We all like to keep warm but the cold weather can take us by surprise resulting in us being less than prepared. With a little extra preparation you can get out and about and enjoy the cold weather. You can also keep really warm and look incredibly stylish. Here are top tips for warm and stylish clothes to keep you warm for this cold spell and the rest of the winter.

Knitwear

The thick and cosy of nature of knitwear makes it incredibly cosy and warm. It is also a great way fo adding texture to an outfit. Patterned knits are really on trend this winter and so is chunky knitwear. For a more subtle look you could also try layering thinner knits. Knitted dresses and thick tights are also great cosy winter outfits.

Fleeces

Fleece jackets are another great option for the winter. Look for fitted styles which and bright colours which combine comfort, warmth and style. If your coat is not quite warm enough, it is also a good idea to wear a thin fleece underneath for a really cosy outdoor outfit.

Layers

One of the most practical ways to keep warm in the winter is to layer pieces of clothing. It is then easy to add or remove a layer as required depending on the temperature. Thin layers usually work best as they don’t create too much bulk but you could try adding a thicker knitted layer on a really cold day.

Winter Coats

Of course when getting out and about in the cold weather a warm everyday coat is essential. There are all sorts of fashionable and very warm choices of winter coat to choose from this winter including faux fur, duffle coats and parkas. Choosing a versatile style means that you can wear it for a range of different occasions.

Hats, scarves and gloves

Heads, necks and hands all tend to get cold no matter how many jumpers you wear. Hats, gloves and scarves are a great addition to your winter coat in the cold weather and are also a great way to add some colour, pattern and texture to your look. Faux fur, animal prints and snowflake patterns are all really on trend this season and a great way to make a classic winter coat look fashionable. Mittens are also a very on trend choice to keep your hands warm this winter.

Sensible shoes or boots

When the ground is snowy and icy sensible shoes or boots are a must. if you need to wear smart shoes for work wear boots and change when you get there. There are all sorts of cosy shearling and faux fur boots in fashion at the moment. A warm and woolly pair of socks is also a good idea to keep your toes really toasty.

Whilst one group of fashionistas is obsessing of beige, neutrals and minimalism particularly when it comes to coats (camel coat anyone?) another school is shunning minimalism in favour of something far more interesting… patterns. Some people just can’t live without patterns and prints. They need them in their life from blouses to accessories and even coats. They have struck lucky this time, as there is plenty of choice this winter when it comes to patterned coats. There really is no need to fade into the background or not get noticed with a patterned coat you will definitely stand out from the crowd.

Take your pick from florals, animal prints and checks. Whatever you choose you are sure to make a style statement. A little trick when you have been around the house all day in your ‘relaxed’ clothes and you need to pop out to the shop. Don’t worry about getting changed just keep a fabulous coat to hand that you can throw on over anything for some instant glamour and style. You will never feel a mess popping to the shops again.

Here are some of our favourite patterned coats for winter 2010.

Red Floral Printed Single Breasted Long Coat

Not only is this coat super cosy but it is also super stylish. It has a striking floral print but the column look created by the patterned panel also has a really slimming effect. The long style of this coat and single breasted design looks great on all body shapes including petites. On a really cold day you could try picking out the red of the floral print with a scarf or beret.

Long line Animal Print Coat

For the ultimate in glamour and luxury, this animal print coat is just what you need. Soft and warm to wrap up in and keep warm on even the coldest of days, this coat would work equally well for both daytime and evenings. The black and white colour scheme is incredibly versatile and it goes with almost anything from a black evening dress to a red jumper.

Floral Flocked Short Brown Coat

For an elegant and light weight choice this winter, this coat would be ideal. It looks great with both smart and casual outfits and goes particularly well with the seasons neutral palette. The double breasted style and epaulets give it a slight military feel which is also very on trend this season.

Purple Checked Coat

The blanket style of coat is also very on trend this year. This purple checked coat is really warm and practical and perfect for wearing with casual outfits. The biggest benefit is that it is machine washable so you can wear it where you like without worrying about getting it dirty.

Short Grey Checked High Collar Coat

For work or casual this coat is a great choice. It has a neutral colour scheme and so goes with almost anything and the small scale checks give it a very stylish look. Accessorise with neutral and grey scarves for a really on trend look.

The temperature is definitely starting to drop outside, so it’s time to think about wrapping up warm for the cold weather. There’s no need to let your style suffer as a result though, there are plenty of stylish clothes which will also keep you warm during the winter months.

Knitted Jackets

A cross between a cardigan and jumper, the knitted jacket is chunky and stylish and will be sure to keep you warm during the winter months. Styles include biker, boyfriend and longer, more fitted options. Knitted jackets are not only great insulation for the cold, but they also look really fashionable too, and are a great alternative to cardigans.

Lined Dresses

If you enjoy wearing dresses, then make sure they are lined, as this will create extra warmth and comfort. Lined dresses can be worn during the day at the office, as well as for special nights out and occasions. Try the empire line dress for a classic style which will be sure to look fantastic and flatter any body shape.

Winter Coats

A nice, warm winter coat, is a must for the cold season. There are loads of gorgeous styles on the high street, which will keep you looking fashionable and trendy over the autumn and winter. Faux fur coats are an especially good choice, as they are very much in style at the moment, and are great for keeping you warm. Other trendy styles to look out for are aviator, macs, boyfriend blazers, duffel coats and anoraks. Choose a winter coat which will work well with your body shape, and will leave adequate room for your knitted jacket, cardigan or jumper.

Boleros and Shrugs

Boleros and shrugs are good options for wearing over a top or dress, particularly for a special occasion, when you might not want to wear a heavy jacket. Boleros are short, light jackets which tend to sit just above the waist and are ideal for occasions such as weddings, whereas shrugs are longer, heavier jackets which are more suited to everyday wear. They are also great choices if you want to cover up your arms and shoulders. Both come in a range of styles, colour, prints and patterns.

Jumpsuits

If you are looking for a warmer alternative to a dress or skirt for those festive nights out, then a jumpsuit is a stylish option for the oncoming season. Jumpsuits cover the whole body, but still look glamorous and there are lots of different styles around, including tie die and leopard designs. Jumpsuits are also made to to suit a range of body shapes with wide leg and slim leg designs available. Other styles to look out for are one shoulder, open back, tie waisted, cowl neck and strapless designs. These will all look great in popular autumn colours, including black, white and the more daring metallic colours. Team your jumpsuit up with a pair of glamorous high heels, for a look which will be the envy at any party or nightclub.

The nights are getting colder, and the mornings, darker which can mean only one thing, winter is upon us. No matter how used to the cold we are, we always seem to be completely unprepared for the winter, with a wardrobe devoid of proper winter coats. This season there are plenty of trendy styles of jacket and coats to choose from to keep you warm and cosy for the winter.

Leather jackets are very stylish this season, with various styles being showcased on the catwalk by top designers. Some styles of leather jackets can be quite expensive, but they are guaranteed to keep you on trend this season. Mainly available in classic black and brown colours, leather jackets come in various styles including bomber jacket and quilted, which are good for keeping you well insulated against the elements. Leather jackets tend to last a long time too, and never seem to go out of fashion. Popular lengths of these jackets include full length, three quarter and those which sit comfortably on the hip.

The aviator jacket is also a really on trend style for this season. A real shearling coat will be a very expenxive choice but there are plenty of more cost effective options like this 3/4 length coat in suedette (pictured above). The longer style and hood make it a really warm and cosy choice for even the coldest winter day.

Fur coats are also highly fashionable this season, and some cropped styles are great for nights out, teamed up with a gorgeous dress and heels. Coats with a fur collar will keep the wind from your face, and keep you warm in the winter. Types of fur include cashmere and camel hair, which are both extremely soft materials. Fur coats also come in a variety of colours, with black being the most common as it will go well with most outfits.

Military style jackets are also extremely stylish for winter 2010, with styles varying from short, long and with the trendy high collar look. Models the world over are seen sporting these types of jackets, which not only look great, but will keep you well protected from the cold. Depending on the style you opt for, these jackets can be worn night or day.

Anoraks and parka jackets are heavy, casual jackets which are designed for freezing conditions. They can be lined with fur, for keeping you well insulated in the later months of the year. If you enjoy activities such as hill walking, you will not feel the cold if you wear a parka or anorak style jacket. These jackets are available in lots of different colours, and bright colours are highly popular.

Duffle coats are also very trendy for autumn and winter, with or without hoods. Large stylish buttons are usually situated down the front of the coat, which can be worn for everyday wear or for those special nights out. Charcoal grey, camel and checked designs are ideal for these styles of coats.

Whilst most camel coats are wool or a wool mix, a quilted coat also looks really sophisticated. It has a soft and comfortable without being too bulky.

Those leaves are starting to fall of the trees which signals that Autumn is on its way. It is time to pack away the summer dresses, sandals and shorts and dust off those jumpers, trousers, jackets and heavier weight clothes. Autumn is a time for cosying up and indulging yourself with rich and deep coloured clothes that make you feel warm and comfortable. This autumn and winter there are lots of really desirable clothes to update your wardrobe with. There is a strong focus on classic investment pieces, glamour and lady like styles. There is also a feeling of reminiscence with plenty of retro styles from the forties, fifties, sixties and seventies. Here are five key pieces to wear with style this autumn and winter.

The Trench Coat

A good neutral coloured trench coat works for so many different outfits from smart work wear to casual outfits and even jeans. It is the perfect way to keep dry in style. The trench coat has always been classed as a classic piece of clothing. This year classic clothing is really on trend. This  black and white contrast detail trench coat is a great investment that will not only be very useful this year but for many seasons to come.

The Shawl Collar Coat

This large collar purple check coat is a really eye catching colour. It is one of the cosiest looking coats around with a blanket like appearance, perfect for wrapping yourself in on a crisp autumn day. The loose fitting nature of this coat means that it fits over just about anything and even allows plenty of room for extra jumpers.

The Cape or Poncho

This long line black and brown poncho with buttonsis a really on trend choice for the autumn and winter. It has a definite seventies vibe going on that will be huge this year. It is also perfect for snuggling up under and features both this years neutral colours and a faux fur trim collar for a little extra luxury and warmth. Wear it with skinny trousers or a pencil skirt for maximum impact.

Chunky Knit Cardigan

A chunky knit cardigan is another very stylish way to keep warm this winter. Look for one with a great shape and texture to add interest to your outfit. You should balance out the volume of chunky knits with slim fit trousers. This grey chunky knit cardigan with 3/4 length sleeves has a great shape with a flared hem and bell shaped sleeves.

Black High Neck Top

A black high neck top is ideal for layering. It is so versatile, it can work with many different outfits including skirts and trousers. It also looks great worn under a shift dress, waistcoat or gilet. The wonderful puffed sleeves and pleated shoulder make it really ladylike the perfect way to add some warmth to those versatile summer outfits to allow you to wear them right into the autumn.

What ever you decide to wear this autumn, make sure you keep yourself warm and stylish with plenty of layers.

Ponchos and capes were around last winter but this winter it looks like they will be even more on trend. A poncho or cape is the perfect cover up for a cold day. It keeps you really snug and warm and fits over the chunkiest of jumpers for a fashionable take on a classic look. Capes and ponchos have come in and out of fashion over the decades with the sixties and seventies have their own versions. It is perhaps because of this retro revival that we are seeing so many capes on the catwalk for winter 2010 but it also fits in well with the whole winter sport or artic trend.

One of the most sought after looks of the season will be the camel coloured cape but you can be a little different and individual with patterned or black capes or ponchos.

How to wear your poncho or cape

There are plenty of different styles of ponchos’ and capes around this winter ranging from cape style outdoor coats to knitted versions which can be worn indoors or outdoors and evening styles for travelling to and from an evening event. Generally speaking the longer and more voluminous the poncho or cape, the more you will need to balance the look by wearing slim fitting clothes on your bottom half. A cape style coat or poncho works really well over a suit to travel to and from work and will comfortably fit over a tailored jacket.

Knitted ponchos tend to look better with casual outfits and work especially well with a pair of leggings and a tunic top as the close fit of the leggings give a balanced look. For the evening a cape or poncho will usually look best with a long column style of evening dress or evening trousers although a short style of poncho an cape may also work with a fuller skirt.

This Black knit panels fringe hem detail poncho is the perfect finishing touch to many evening outfits. It adds warmth but does not detract from the beautiful evening wear worn underneath. Black is the perfect versatile colour and this dress will work for so many occasions including with daytime outfits. It has a delicate fringe and is finished with pom poms. It also has cuffs to keep the ponch in place.

This stunning Black knit panels fringe hem detail poncho not only acts as a great cover up to travel to and from parties this winter but also is a fashion statement in its own right. The white icicle and snow like design gives it a really wintery feel and fits in well with the ski wear trend seen on many of the catwalks.

This beautiful Longline black and brown poncho with buttons is perfect for daytime wear in the winter. It has a chunky knit with brown panels and a very attractive and warm faux fur collar. It would look great with black leggings and boots. If you are short, add a wedge heel to keep the look balanced.

This weekend the August bank holiday signals that we are nearly at the end of the summer and about to move into the cooler autumn. Now is a great time to start planning ahead for the autumn and winter and choosing a winter coat to keep you toasty warm. Here is our pick of the key winter coat trends for the season ahead.

The Military Coat

The trend for military inspired clothes goes on into to the winter with smart and structured winter coats with military featured including double breasted, brass buttons, epaulettes and belts. This long black military coat at Roman Originals is a great version of this trend with full lining and a really flattering shape.

Fur trim

Fur trim on a winter coat not only looks incredibly stylish but is also really warm. Faux fur was seen all over the catwalks for autumn and winter most notably at Chanel where models were dressed in plenty of faux fur for artic conditions. This brown padded coat with faux fur hood from Roman Originals is a good version of the on trend parka coat which is practical and perfect for casual wear.

Animal Print Coat

Animal print is such a huge trend at the moment and a coat is a great way to make a real fashion statement. The grey, black and white colours are really versatile and go with most outfits. This black animal print coat with velvet trim from Roman Originals is a really stylish way to wear animal prints. It is perfect for daytime or the evening and is even smart enough to wear to work.

Statement Coat

Whilst some people prefer a really neutral coat that goes with everything, others prefer a great statement coat that can be thrown on over any outfit for an amazing look. Bright colours, bold patterns, interesting shapes and textures are all great ways to make a statement with your coat. This fully lined shoulder detail long sleeved coat by Roman Originals is really eye catching with its deep rich colours, patchwork effect and chalk effect design. It would look great with coloured tights for the daytime or worn over a little black dress for the evening.

Neutral Coat

Neutral coloured coats are set to huge for autumn winter 2010. With the camel coat being tipped as a must have by all of the fashion editors, it looks like everyone is going neutral. A neutral coloured coat not only works really well with the seasons minimalist trend but it is also incredibly versatile and goes with most outfits. We love this high collared front buttoned long ash coat by Roman Originals.

Padded Coats

Padded coats never really go out of fashion because they are just so amazingly practical. They are really warm and usually waterproof too. This year with fashion going artic, there are bound to plenty of versions on this old favourite. Our favourite is this silver quilt coat with pockets and a detachable hood ideal for almost any casual outing.

As we enjoy the beautiful sunshine and summer weather, the autumn and winter may seem like a long way away, but the shops are already gearing up for the season ahead and filling there rails with lots of beautiful autumn and winter clothes. As usual there are plenty of different fashions and trends from which you can easily find a style that will suit your body shape, personal style and lifestyle.

Winter fashion is often dominated by talk of winter coats and party dresses and this year is no different. But for most of the designers this year, there collections have moved into a whole new era of wearability. Gone are the days when designers could design just for their own artistic pleasure. In these hard economic times their collections need to sell and this was clearly evident in the elegant and stylish clothes that were also really classic and wearable. This winter looks to be another season with plenty of neutrals and minimalism, yet again we can all safely stick to the saying ‘less is more’.

Maxmara has always led the way in this classic, neutral style exhibited in their luxurious camel coats that have always been incredibly popular. But there will also be some brights with a peppering of bold reds, mustard and lemon yellows and electric blues seen on the autumn winter catwalks.

There will be some new silhouettes for the autumn, well they are not exactly new as they originated in the fifties and have come back into fashion periodically ever since. The rise of interest in vintage clothing could well be responsible for this interest in pencil skirts and a line skirts with nipped in waists, both of which are perfect for an hour glassed shaped lady.

Womens trousers will be incredibly flattering this winter with boot cut and straight cut styles dominating. These trousers are great for women of any age and shape and do an amazing job of lengthening the leg.

There will also be plenty of romantic and faded florals, animal prints and lace in black, nude and even pink. Some times some or all of these looks will combined for an eclectic and bohemian look. This was clearly evident on the catwalks of Ralph Lauren, Kenzo, Paul Smith and Dries Van Noten.

Capes will be back in fashion, as will maxi dresses and maxi skirts. Ladylike handbags were also all over the catwalks and classic styles ruled. Waists were cinched with skinny belts and sky high heels were complimented by a new style of much more practical and wearable mid height heels.

For all the sensibility and classic style around for the autumn and winter, there is still some fun to be had. White fur was used to create yeti like outfits. There were also black and white fur coats, shaggy fur coats and glossy black fur for a dramatic and very warm look. There was also a dose of theatrical style which combined bright colours in a flamboyant and chaotic way. This look was unsurprisingly seen at Jean Paul Gaultier, Jean Galliano, Vivienne Westwood and Dior amongst others.

Sometimes women just feel like treating themselves as it makes them feel better about themselves, and more often than often than not the item that they treat themselves to is some form of clothing. So when it comes to winter and as the days get colder and the nights get darker it is little wonder that many women want to buy something which makes them feel better. During the winter months women often look for something which makes them snug and warm and which gives them the feeling of having kept the cold at bay. That is why so often women invest in knitwear, scarves, hats and gloves at this time of year. However, it seems that more and more women, in an attempt to lift themselves out of the winter blues, are buying coats. What better item to give them that warm, glowing feeling than a luxury winter coat?

Luxury coats are naturally more expensive than other winter coats but in some instances they are worth the extra cost. It is fair to say thatluxury coats generally exude a sense of both style and warmth that a regular coat simply cannot. What usually makes these coats luxurious is the material from which they are made. When buy a luxury coat many women opt for something which has a fur feel to it. Mostly women opt for a coat with a faux fur trimming or lining or in some instances a coat which is made entirely made of faux fur when they seek to achieve both the look and feel of luxury. Coats made from such materials exude the look of luxury and in addition they feel extremely soft and luxurious against the wearerâ??s skin. On a cold winterâ??s evening such coats help to create the snug feeling that so many women search for in a coat. Whatâ??s more the sophisticated look that they so successfully exude makes them ideal to wear on a special occasion or on an evening out.

A luxury coat is, in general, more flattering to a womanâ??s figure as the extra money that is spent on a luxury coat ensures that it is more fitted than most other coats. These coats are tailored to hug a womanâ??s curves and flatter a woman of any shape or size beautifully.

Luxury coats come in a range of styles; however, it is often the longer length of coat which portrays a great level of elegance. Coats which are longer in length are the ultimate in luxurious coats as they are slightly more formal than shorter coats and therefore can add a hint of glamour to an outfit. In addition, not only does the extra length provide a degree of sophistication but it also provides more warmth to the wearer.

Moreover, it is possible to buy a luxury coat with great degrees of detail; these types of coats can add a wow factor to an outfit and make any outfit standout. Coats with such delicate detail are another solution to what a woman should wear over her outfit when heading out for the evening. Often women think that when they are wearing evening wear a coat over the top of the ensemble will ruin the look. However, coats with such delicate detail could only seek to complete the look rather than destroy it.

Despite the fact that luxury coats cost a little more than other winter coats it is clear that they are worth the extra money. They not only make the wearer feel good about themselves, but they also look great. They are special, different from the average coat and extremely elegant, no womanâ??s wardrobe should be without one.
