Much of the UK is covered in snow today or has at least had some snow and is experiencing temperatures in the minus figures. At first the snow is great fun but after a while it can start to lose its appeal. We all like to keep warm but the cold weather can take us by surprise resulting in us being less than prepared. With a little extra preparation you can get out and about and enjoy the cold weather. You can also keep really warm and look incredibly stylish. Here are top tips for warm and stylish clothes to keep you warm for this cold spell and the rest of the winter.
Knitwear
The thick and cosy of nature of knitwear makes it incredibly cosy and warm. It is also a great way fo adding texture to an outfit. Patterned knits are really on trend this winter and so is chunky knitwear. For a more subtle look you could also try layering thinner knits. Knitted dresses and thick tights are also great cosy winter outfits.
Fleeces
Fleece jackets are another great option for the winter. Look for fitted styles which and bright colours which combine comfort, warmth and style. If your coat is not quite warm enough, it is also a good idea to wear a thin fleece underneath for a really cosy outdoor outfit.
Layers
One of the most practical ways to keep warm in the winter is to layer pieces of clothing. It is then easy to add or remove a layer as required depending on the temperature. Thin layers usually work best as they don’t create too much bulk but you could try adding a thicker knitted layer on a really cold day.

Of course when getting out and about in the cold weather a warm everyday coat is essential. There are all sorts of fashionable and very warm choices of winter coat to choose from this winter including faux fur, duffle coats and parkas. Heads, necks and hands all tend to get cold no matter how many jumpers you wear. Hats, gloves and scarves are a great addition to your winter coat in the cold weather and are also a great way to add some colour, pattern and texture to your look. Faux fur, animal prints and snowflake patterns are all really on trend this season and a great way to make a classic winter coat look fashionable. Sensible shoes or boots
When the ground is snowy and icy sensible shoes or boots are a must. if you need to wear smart shoes for work wear boots and change when you get there. There are all sorts of cosy shearling and faux fur boots in fashion at the moment. A warm and woolly pair of socks is also a good idea to keep your toes really toasty.
Whilst one group of fashionistas is obsessing of beige, neutrals and minimalism particularly when it comes to coats (camel coat anyone?) another school is shunning minimalism in favour of something far more interesting… patterns. Some people just can’t live without patterns and prints. They need them in their life from blouses to accessories and even coats. They have struck lucky this time, as there is plenty of choice this winter when it comes to patterned coats. There really is no need to fade into the background or not get noticed with a patterned coat you will definitely stand out from the crowd.
Take your pick from florals, animal prints and checks. Whatever you choose you are sure to make a style statement. A little trick when you have been around the house all day in your ‘relaxed’ clothes and you need to pop out to the shop. Red Floral Printed Single Breasted Long Coat
Not only is this coat super cosy but it is also super stylish. It has a striking floral print but the column look created by the patterned panel also has a really slimming effect. On a really cold day you could try picking out the red of the floral print with a scarf or beret.

Short Grey Checked High Collar Coat

Boleros and shrugs are good options for wearing over a top or dress, particularly for a special occasion, when you might not want to wear a heavy jacket. If you are looking for a warmer alternative to a dress or skirt for those festive nights out, then a jumpsuit is a stylish option for the oncoming season. Jumpsuits cover the whole body, but still look glamorous and there are lots of different styles around, including tie die and leopard designs. Jumpsuits are also made to to suit a range of body shapes with wide leg and slim leg designs available. Other styles to look out for are one shoulder, open back, tie waisted, cowl neck and strapless designs. No matter how used to the cold we are, we always seem to be completely unprepared for the winter, with a wardrobe devoid of proper winter coats. Fur coats also come in a variety of colours, with black being the most common as it will go well with most outfits.
