If you work in an office, you may have a dress down on day on some or all Fridays. For many people choosing something to wear on dress down Friday represents something of a challenge. If your office is smart during the week and you usually wear either a suit or smart trousers and blouse, dress down Friday gives you the chance to wear something more casual that you wouldn’t usually be able to wear. The difficulty with smart casual wear is that the name in itself is something of a contradiction. Is it smart or is it casual? It is actually a grey and murky area in between that is very much open to interpretation. Smart casual dress for work often forces people out of their comfort zone of a preset wardrobe of trouser suits into very uncertain territory that can make them feel uncomfortable.

On the one hand smart casual wear on dress down Fridays gives you the chance to show a bit of who you are and how you dress on the weekends, to have a bit of a change and a bit of fun. On the other hand, many fear that they can’t go too far and dress too casually, as after all it is still work and they still have to maintain an air of professionalism. Some offices will have rules for smart casual days such as no jeans, t shirts or trainers, others will leave it entirely up to the employees what they deem to be ‘smart casual’.

Of course, you could just ignore dress down Fridays all together and wear your usual business suit. But why miss out on all of the fun and the chance to wear something a bit different? After all they do say that variety is the spice of life.

The key to negotiating the difficult choice of what to wear on dress down Fridays is to choose something that you feel comfortable in. If you only really feel comfortable wearing suits for work, why not try wearing a brighter top or accessorising with some really fun and bright accessories.

turquoise skirt

If you usually wear trousers for work, why not try wearing a beautiful printed skirt instead, still smart but making much more of an individual style statement than your usual office wear.

Another option is to wear a casual suit or matching top and bottoms, this still looks smart and stays within the comfort zone of wearing a suit but is a bit more comfortable and relaxed.

short sleeved tunic

A good alternative to smart trousers and a blouse for the summer is a pair of casual trousers and a tunic top.

checked dress

A dress can also make a relaxed alternative to your usual business wear for dress down Fridays. Why not try choosing a different colour to the ones that you would usually wear to work.

Whatever you choose to wear to work, have fun on your dress down Fridays and the chance to wear something a bit different. Show off your own personal style and enjoy the chance to feel a little bit more relaxed at work.

As the weather improves and as the temperatures begin to increase finding something to wear to work which is not only reflective of the work environment but which is also comfortable becomes increasingly more difficult.  Despite the fact that Britons up and down the country are rejoicing at the fact spring has finally sprung and that summer is just around the corner many women are struggling with what to wear to work each morning.

For women who work in an office the winter is an easy time of the year when it comes to deciding what to wear.  In general they simply wear trouser suits on a daily basis, or even suits with skirts.  The majority of skirt and trouser suits come in dark colours such as black or brown which are perfect for the winter months but come summer such colours arenâ??t quite as practical.  Darker colours such as these tend to attract the heat, something which most women want to avoid during the summer months.

However it is possible for women to still wear trouser suits to work throughout the summer months without having to sacrifice their comfort levels.  By mixing navy and white together women could create a summery look which still looks professional.  It is possible to wear a white trouser suit with a navy top or vice versa, or even navy trousers with a navy top and a white jacket and not look out of place in the office.

The white will allow the wearer to remain cool both in work and on the journey to and from the office.  What is more, although this look still appears rather formal and professional, and therefore highly suited to the office, it is also somewhat more relaxed and less rigid than the winter look of dark coloured trouser suits.  In addition to this these colours represent the nautical look which is set to be very big this summer again.  So not only will teaming these colours together leave the wearer feeling cooler but they will also be very much on trend.

In addition it is also advised in an attempt to keep cool in the summer months that women swap their long sleeved blouses with short sleeved blouses.  In most offices it is acceptable for employees to removes their jackets whilst in the office, short sleeved blouses would therefore be beneficial.  In some instances it may even be acceptable to wear a sleeveless top.   However the level to which the wearing of such a garment is accepted will vary from office to office.  It is therefore recommended that the example set by superiors in the office be followed.  For instance if a manager wears a sleeveless  top then it would be fair to say that this is seen as appropriate summer office wear.

It is much easier to dress for the office during the summer months than many women may think.  Nevertheless it is important to remember that the office is a professional environment and as such any outfit worn to the office should reflect this.  It is easy for women to opt for comfort over professionalism and consequently dress too casually for the office.  However, it is no longer necessary to choose between comfort and professionalism as if the right outfit is chosen the two can be combined.

Dressing in a way which is not only reflective of your age and style but which also flatters your figure is often a difficult task to achieve.  With so many boxes to tick many women tend struggle to find clothes which flatter their body.  All too often women find an item of clothing that they like but when they try it on find that it doesnâ??t actually suit their body shape.  Consequently a large number of women now believe that to wear something that accentuates their body in all the right places that they must sacrifice all of their style credentials.  However, this is simply not true, there are a few simple tips which women should bear in mind when shopping for clothes which should ensure that they still dress in a way that compliments their body but which also ensures they look stylish.

It is common for petite women to want to appear taller but often a large number of such women struggle to find clothes which allow them to achieve this look.  However, a top tip when it comes to this problem is wearing a block colour, as this will elongate the body and make it appear much longer than it actually is.  When it comes to work wear, wearing a trouser suit which is all the one colour is the perfect solution.  In addition to enhance the sense of height further it is highly recommended that trousers suits be teamed with a pair of high heels.  Moreover the heels should be the same colour as the trousers being worn at the time, as the seamless flow of block colour will create the illusion that the wearer is much taller.  However, if a woman is shopping for a dress it is still fairly easy to create a similar illusion, if it is a summer dress which to be purchased then a pair of nude shoes should be worn.  Most women team summer dresses with the bare leg look so a pair of nude shoes will elongate the legs and make the wearer appear taller.

Meanwhile many curvaceous women strive to find clothes which make their bodies appear slimmer than they are.  However, as such they often feel they cannot buy any item of patterned clothing but this is simply not true.  Curvaceous women can wear patterns although care should be taken to ensure that the print is not quite small and not too fussy.  A delicate floral pattern would be great for the spring/summer months as this is very on trend this season.

What is more investment in a good pair of underwear can also be very beneficial.  Depending on the body shape of the woman in question it is possible to buy underwear which tackles the problem area and makes it appear flatter or perkier than it actually is.

Women should be aware than dressing to flatter your body does not mean that you have their sense of style, rather it possible to marry the two together.
