Floral prints are one of the biggest trends this season, but how can you wear them to make sure you don’t look frumpy?

Firstly don’t wear small, ditsy or fussy floral prints as these can swamp you and make you look larger and frumpy. These kinds of prints are best left to the young.

Over fifty, you should choose larger floral patterns on darker backgrounds such as black, navy and green. These will help to slim you down and are incredibly flattering. Try to wear prints in similar colours or if you are confident, pick a print with a hot colour like orange or pink to stand out. Soft, watercolour shades also work well.

Be wary when choosing prints, as some can look cheap and trashy. Avoid loud colours on busy backgrounds and never wear two different prints together-again this is something best left to the young.

Dresses should be teemed with a lightweight cardigan or jacket so that the print is broken up and doesn’t swamp your frame. If a floral dress sounds a bit much for you, try a floral scarf, top or bag. Pair them with minimal colours and keep your outfit reasonably simple to ensure your floral piece stands out.

By mastering floral prints, you can look classy season after season as florals never go out of women’s fashion.

If you are looking to bring your wardrobe up to date, then we have found some very helpful tips on how you can take women’s fashion to the next level.

Here are some simple tips on how you can stay fashionable and organise your wardrobe appropriately.

The first thing to remember is to always shop smarter when you are in your 40s.

You will want to purchase items that work for you and suit your body shape and style.

The best way to do this firstly, is to try on items that you own previously to get a sense of what works for you and what you think may not work.

Once you know what works and what does not, you will be able to plan your outfits better.

Don’t crowd your wardrobe with items that aren’t very flattering, always try to pick out potential outfits that can be customised or used in multiple ways.

Remember also to always shop around to find the best deals, you don’t want to look around looking for that one item, only to find it is cheaper somewhere else.

Always be willing to try new things too and always be open to suggestion as to how you could take your wardrobe forward.

So the warmer weather is creeping in slowly but surely and we have a few predictions of  fashion trends to look out for.

This year is very much about bold colours and many women’s fashion houses are concentrating on incorporating this into their collections.

Bold orange is going to quickly take the catwalks by storm, that doesn’t mean that you have to rush to the shops and replace your wardrobe to resemble a tangerine, no simply buy a few accessories that can complement your clothes such as a bold orange scarf or bag.

High-waisted jeans are going to be big again either skinny or traditional, opting for the high waist will ensure you are a dedicated follower of fashion. Not sure that this is ideally what we would recommend for the older lady but there are no rules regarding fashion so why not try something new.

Another bold colour which we will see regularly on the catwalks is regatta blue. A classic favourite of our future queen Kate Middleton, who is often seen wearing blue paired with classic dark colours.

Whatever colours you add to your wardrobe be sure to keep your classic whites on hand as they go well with oranges and blues as well as darker colours.

Everybody knows that Paris is the fashion capital of the world, so if you’re planning a romantic break this spring or just a short get-away, then dressing to impress should be high on the holiday check-list.

It can be cold around this time of year so choosing the right clothes, whilst remaining classic should be the first consideration.

You can never go far wrong with a practical neutral black coat, the colour of which never tires among the Parisians.

Paring that with dark grey, dark brown or other dark colours such as purple are a must.

The latest fashion trend in women’s clothing is black slacks, so pairing them up with a dark, knee-length coat will keep you up-to-date.

Also packed in the suitcase should be black leggings and skirts or dresses worn with black tights or nylon stockings will work well with the jacket.

The most important accessory should be the scarf; they can add colour and also compliment older skin, particularly if they are darker in colour.

A pair of flat shoes is essential, as you will cover a lot of walking ground. A stylish knee length boot will keep you warm but also allow you to remain stylish if worn over skinny jeans or leggings.

If you are looking for something a bit more glamorous then try a pair of high-heel ankle boots with either skinny jeans, trousers or skirts as they are quite high fashion at the moment.

The biggest tip that we can give you is to take some spending money, as there are amazing women’s clothing stores in Galleries La Fayette which cater for the most exquisite to the lower end of the budgets but promise to be equally as fashionable.

Ok so let’s face it, there is possibly a stereotype of what the more mature lady should wear and jeans perhaps wouldn’t necessarily be the first thing that comes into our heads.

But why should we stop wearing certain things just to conform the ideologies of others?

The answer to this question should be for the wearer to decide – not what we are told is right and wrong.

As you may recall, the over 50s generation were, in fact, very fervent adopters of jeans in their youth, so why should we have to stop after a certain age.

Looking back on photographs of you when you were younger, you will probably find that in every one you had a pair of jeans on, to be more accurate you probably had a pair for every occasion!

If you still love wearing jeans, here are a few tips to help you remain stylish and trendy whilst keeping in-line with your maturity.

  • Try and avoid light denim at all costs, even the younger generation have trouble pulling off this look. Stick to darker denims such as navy and black-it looks more stylish and darker denims compliment those with larger figures.
  • Stretch denim is a great way to feel comfortable and a great way to look good. Nobody will know if you are wearing stretch denim-it could do wonders for those problem areas that other non-stretch jeans can’t.
  • Go jeans shopping and try a few different styles and shades on. You could have been wearing the same pair of jeans for years that may have suited you at the time, but today a different style or shape could be the new look you have been looking for.

Whatever you decide there really is no right or wrong answer, looking and feeling good is the most important part of womens fashion, and only you can decide on that!
