Summer has finally arrived and we can’t wait for more of that lovely sunshine. With the weather reaching up to the thirties this weekend, keeping cool and comfortable is likely to be one of your key considerations. Have you ever noticed how, when the sun comes out, women seem to make a bit more effort about what they wear? Out come the beautiful summer dresses, the crisp white trousers and bold bright prints. Summer dresses are probably the easiest and most comfortable way to keep cool on a really hot summer day and always look really stylish.
The best summer dresses for keeping cool in are cotton or natural fabrics like linen. Synthetic fabrics will make you feel warmer and will make you sweat more. Always opt for quite loose fitting clothes as they will allow your skin to ‘breathe’. You should also opt for lighter colours if you will be out in the sun as they will not get so warm. Finally a wide brimmed hat is a great investment to keep the sun off your face neck and shoulders. If this is too much for wearing out and about, a smaller brimmed hat will also help keep you cool and give your head and face some protection. Â
Floral dresses
Floral dresses are perfect for a hot summers day. They are colourful and will make you feel really happy. For a light and airy summer dress that does not soak up too much heat from the sun, opt for a print with coloured flowers on a white background. We love this ivory and turquiose crinkle cotton dress as it is so bright but also loose and comfortable, it is ideal for days out, casual parties and sitting in the garden.
Maxi Dresses
The beauty of maxi dresses is that they allow you to keep cool without showing off too much of your body. They are perfect for covering up white legs or larger hips and thighs. Their loose fitting empire line is great for keeping cool and looking glamorous, elegant and stylish. Maxi dresses can work for all sorts of occasions including parties or more formal events, casual daytime and holidays.
Sun dresses
Sun dresses are just as the name suggests for wearing in the sun. The are usually fairly simple styles that are made of cotton and just below knee length. We love this black and white ditsy floral crinkle dress, the crinkled texture of the fabric allows it to be loose fitting and comfortable without appearing too loose and shapeless.
Shift dresses
A shift dress is a great alternative to a suit for keeping cool at work on a hot summers day. For a more conservative work place a dress with sleeves would be best. You can add a suit jacket if you work in an air conditioned building which can sometimes be much cooler than the outside temperature.
Looking stylish in the heat is all about combining style and comfort. The outfits that keep you the coolest are likely to look the most stylish as a red and shiny face is never a great look.
We all love a good wedding. If you have been invited to a wedding this summer you will no doubt be putting quite a bit of thought into which wedding outfit to wear to help your friends or family celebrate their special day. A wedding outfit should usually be fairly formal (depending on where it is held and if the bride and groom have chosen a specific dress code), it should look stylish and smart but not too extravagant as you obviously don’t want to compete with the bride in any way.
There aren’t usually too any rules about what you should wear to a wedding. You can choose a unique and individual outfit that looks great on you and won’t look just the same as everyone else. There is one rule that you should always follow though – you should never wear white to a wedding, unless you are the bride.Â
Usually a knee length or three quarter length occasion dresses  work well. If the wedding includes a religious ceremony, it is well worth considering how appropriate your outfit is. Very short skirts, low cut tops or sometimes bare arms are quite often considered inappropriate wear for places or worship. If you do wear a sleeveless dress you can always add a smart jacket to complete the outfit.
The two most popular wedding outfits for women are a suit or a dress. If you choose to wear a suit, try and stay away from blacks, greys, browns and navy as these tend to look a little like you are going to work. If you must wear one of these colours be sure to accessorise with some bright colours or patterned accessories to make it a bit brighter. Scarves or camisole tops are both a great way of adding colour and don’t forget shoes, handbags, jewellery, hats and fascinators are all good ways of adding colour (although do not wear all of these at once). Suits with patterned, coloured or two tone jackets are all great for weddings as they look a bit more formal than a normal suit. Choose for bold and eyecatching black and white or a more subtle combination or neutral or pastel colours. The colours that you choose to wear should depend on your colouring. Try on different colours to work out which look best on you.
Patterned and floral print dresses are always a great choice for a summer wedding. They are pretty and feminine and will definitely make you stand out in the crowd. If you prefer a really classic and simple look a dress in one colour with some carefully chosen accessories in another contrasting colour will look chic and sophisticated. You could also opt for a bold pattern.
Matching shoes and bag with a wedding outfit can sometimes look a little dated. Instead perhaps opt for two different colours that either compliment or match your outfit. There are plenty of other accessories that you can to really finish off your wedding outfit but don’t add too many, remember less is sometimes more.
A hat is not absolutely essential for a wedding but if you like getting a bit dressed up then why not make the most of the opportunity. There are also all sorts of alternatives to a hat including fascinators, and floral or crystal hair bands or accessories.
It is only the beginning of May and we have already experienced some very warm summer like weather. Everyone will be hoping for lots more of this weather over the coming months. But when the weather is so beautiful, what can we wear to keep cool and look stylish? A dress is the perfect answer for all sorts of situations. A smart dress works well as an alternative to a suit for work. Dresses are also great casual choices when worn sandals or flip flops for a hot summer day or holiday outfit. There are so many different styles of summer dresses to choose from including minimalist shift and shirt dresses, to bright bold and colourful prints and more subtle patterns. There are day dresses, occasion dresses and evening dresses but some versatile dresses can work for more than one of these.  Here are some of our favourites for 2010.
The floral dress -florals are incredibly popular during the spring and summer months and are a great way to cheer up your wardrobe and add some beautiful colours. There are plenty of different florals to choose from including small scale ditsy prints to bold and bright florals in pinks and reds. Florals dresses are incredibly feminine, they do not need much in the way of accessories. A simple tan leather handbag will work really well.
The maxi dress- with their long and flowing style, maxi dresses are perfect for hot weather and also look really glamorous for more formal occasions. For the most flattering style opt for a simple empire line top and a brighter border print around the skirt. Maxi dresses usually look best when worn with heels. A clutch bag will complete this look perfectly.
The tie dye dress - this seasons tie dye dress is a great daytime option and also perfect for the beach or holiday. Team with flip flops and sandals and a straw hat for the beach. This dress is just right for slipping on over your swimming costume or bikini.
The shift dress - We love the shift dress for its versatility and classic style. It is the ultimate in smart work wear for summer. This year minimalist styles are big news and a shift in a plain or neutral dress is such a great way to work this trend.
The check dress - check shirts are a massive trend this year. A checked dress is great for those who can’t do without their checks even in the really hot weather. It is also a great alternative for those who want to wear a dress but find floral dresses too feminine.
The shirt dress - if you are looking for a smart casual dress in a classic style that will last for many years to come the shirt dress is a great choice . It is also really flattering and fits in well with this years military trend. As the neckline is quite high, you can wear slightly unbuttoned with a simple necklace or just add some chunky bangles.
Your wedding will be one of the most important, if not the most important day of your life so naturally you will want to look your best. It will probably be the only time in your life that you will get the chance to wear a beautiful wedding dress in white. This is just what most little girls dream of and you will want your wedding to be perfect in every way. You will also want to look beautiful in the photographs which will serve as a permanent reminder of your special day.
But with everything being so expensive, particularly when it comes to weddings and so many other expenses for a newly wed couple like perhaps buying their new house, you may not want to spend the £18,500 that the average UK wedding costs. Some of this money could be spent on a deposit for a house that you will live in happily through out your marriage. Just because you have planned your wedding on a budget, it does not mean that it will be any less special or less enjoyable for you or the guests. Sometimes a wedding on a budget can be more special than one that cost a lot of money because more thought may have been put into making it a great day that is very personal to you. It is those little touches that really make the difference and don’t necessarily cost any money for example, the personalised wedding vows, the friend playing music at the reception and a few party games organised to keep the children happy.
When it comes to choosing what to wear, it is completely possible to spend very little on a budget wedding dress and still look amazing. Opt for a simple and classic style and it is unlikely that anyone will know you are wearing a budget wedding gown. A corset bodice with an a line shape and floor skimming skirt is probably the one of the most classic styles of wedding dress and will look great on any body shape.  Accessorise it carefully with beautiful jewellery and simple white shoes which again you can buy at a very low cost.
If you are looking for an alternative look to the traditional white dress then an evening dress will make an original choice. Be sure to pick a colour that really suits your complexion. You can accessorise with a wrap, bolero or shrug for a really lovely wedding outfit. If you prefer a smarter but less formal outfit a coloured suit with a beautiful hat is a great choice. Think about which hat will really compliment your face shape and your outfit.  Remember to speak to your husband to be in advance to check that your outfits will not clash and pick the right colour of flowers to really compliment your outfit.
If you do have bridesmaids you can also  find some great budget bridesmaid dresses. Try looking in at shops that sell budget evening dresses. Summer dresses in purples, blues, pinks, greens or yellows also make great bridesmaid dresses. The added benefit will be that the bridesmaids will be able to keep them afterwards and get much more wear out of them than the one day.
