Ok so let’s face it, there is possibly a stereotype of what the more mature lady should wear and jeans perhaps wouldn’t necessarily be the first thing that comes into our heads.

But why should we stop wearing certain things just to conform the ideologies of others?

The answer to this question should be for the wearer to decide – not what we are told is right and wrong.

As you may recall, the over 50s generation were, in fact, very fervent adopters of jeans in their youth, so why should we have to stop after a certain age.

Looking back on photographs of you when you were younger, you will probably find that in every one you had a pair of jeans on, to be more accurate you probably had a pair for every occasion!

If you still love wearing jeans, here are a few tips to help you remain stylish and trendy whilst keeping in-line with your maturity.

  • Try and avoid light denim at all costs, even the younger generation have trouble pulling off this look. Stick to darker denims such as navy and black-it looks more stylish and darker denims compliment those with larger figures.
  • Stretch denim is a great way to feel comfortable and a great way to look good. Nobody will know if you are wearing stretch denim-it could do wonders for those problem areas that other non-stretch jeans can’t.
  • Go jeans shopping and try a few different styles and shades on. You could have been wearing the same pair of jeans for years that may have suited you at the time, but today a different style or shape could be the new look you have been looking for.

Whatever you decide there really is no right or wrong answer, looking and feeling good is the most important part of womens fashion, and only you can decide on that!

It is every ladies wish to have tiny features, however petite ladies can find it hard to give themselves the appearance of looking taller. They want to look taller and leaner whilst feeling comfortable in what they wear; the idea behind this initiative is to produce a sense of height, whilst loosing the baggy clothes.

Colour Dressing
If you dress in one colour top to bottom, it will create the impression that you have a taller figure. Try wearing darker colours such as black, charcoal, navy and deep purple to make you look slimmer.

Your clothes should fit well
It may seem obvious but not all people follow this. Your clothes should fit you well and accentuate your best features such as your bust and waistline. Clothes which are loose fitting generally make petites look smaller.

V-Necks
Picking out v-necked tops, jumpers and t-shirts will also help you to create the illusion that you are taller.

Straight Legs
When choosing jeans and smart work trousers, look out for the straight leg fit. Avoid big, baggy pockets and stay away from the skinny fit which will give the appearance that your legs are shorter.

One button jackets
The perfect office suit would be to have a single breasted one button jacket which sits in just at the hips, whereas, a boxier jacket would sit just below the hips making you look wider.

3 quarter length sleeves
Having 3 quarter length sleeves on your jackets will help to make your arms look longer.

Longer skirts are the new mini
Try to stay away from mini length skirts; this will cut off the length of your legs, again making them look even shorter. Opt for longer slimmer fitting skirts which will make you look taller.

Strapless dresses
Whilst we say no to pleats in trousers or skirts for the petite lady, to create an enhanced bust line pleats are perfect when wearing strapless dresses. Wearing a strapless, under wired bra will also give your bust line an enhanced shape.

Thin not thick
If youâ??re looking for jumpers, itâ??s best to try the thinner style which makes you look slimmer. Chunky everyday knitwear will make you look bigger and ultimately shorter.

Heels
Wearing high heels are the perfect solution for anyone who wants to look taller. It elongates the legs which gives you the appearance of looking and feeling leaner. A tip would be to avoid heels that have an ankle strap as it will break up your vertical line, therefore making you look shorter.

Small bags are a must
Whilst many people donâ??t think that the size of their handbag will even affect their height, they are wrong. If you are a petite lady and you use a large bag it can appear to swamp your figure making you look smaller. Smaller bags are perfect and across the body bags look great with a petite frame.

Skinny belts
Thin belts are perfect to wear with dresses, if you match them to the colour of your outfit. Large, chunky belts will only cut your shape, therefore losing the vertical line again.

If you are a plus size you may find it difficult to find nice clothes that look good on you. There is no reason why you can’t look gorgeous and stylish, it is all about finding just the right clothes to suit. As a plus size you are very much an individual and there is no one style that suits all.

For many plus size ladies, the things that they do to try and hide their size or curves, end up just drawing attention to them even more for example wearing long baggy clothing. Looking great is partly about having confidence and sometimes that means moving out of your comfort zone in terms of clothing and trying something new.

To some extent you should apply the usual rules on how to dress based on your body shape, but there are also a few extra tips that may come in handy.

  • If you struggles to find clothes to fit your proportions, just find something that you like and get it altered to fit. If in doubt go up a size rather than down as it is always easier to take clothes in than out. Pay particular attention to getting the length, waist and trouser or sleeve length just right.
  • Try out other alternatives to black. Black may be slimming but it can also be quite a harsh colour and can get boring if worn all of the time. Try other combinations of neutrals until you find one that you lve. If you are finding it really hard to move away from black navy is a great first step.
  • Be sure that your clothes all fit you properly. Clothing that is too big or too small will just make you look bigger. Try and find clothes that skim over your curves rather than hugging, pulling, pucker, or loosly draping.

  • Pick your favourite part of your body and draw attention to it using jewellery, accessories, bright colours, patterns or embellishment. Some areas to consider are shoulders, décolletage, forearms, legs or ankles.
plus size clothing
  • Choose tailored jackets that end at the hip bone. This will help to elongate your legs and slim down your whole torso.
  • Avoid tapered trousers which make the hips look wider and pleated skirts which add bulk.

  • Try and find a well fitting pair of flat fronted trousers, this is by far the most flattering style.
plus size clothes
  • Try wearing tops with a low v neck layered over a vest or camisole top.
  • Clothes that do not crease easily in soft jersey fabrics tend too look best as they drape perfectly and don’t crease when you sit down, which can make clothes look unsightly.

Whatever your size or shape, when it comes down to looking stylish, it is vital that you feel comfortable, confident and happy in your clothes and with the way that you look. Confidence comes from within so take time to pick yourself some beautiful clothes and remind yourself how beautiful you are.
