Grey Shift Dress With Detatchable Black Patent Belt
One of the most important trends from 2010, which will carry on for 2011, is the minimalist trend. As the name suggests, the minimalist trend involves clothing which is understated and unassuming. The idea behind this trend is that less is more, so we are looking at outfits which have crisp cuts, and are free from busy patterns and fabrics. These outfits won’t be attention grabbing in the usual sense, but will stand out as a result of their fresh and unique characteristics.
Some of the top designers such as Calvin Klein and Dolce & Gabbana have created designs which follow the minimalist trend, and are made up of outfits with clean lines and cuts. There is no one particular colour which works for this trend, but some of the most common include grey, black and camel. Neutral shades are also commonplace with this trend, and white is looking to be one of the most popular colours for 2011. This is not a rule though, you can also carry off the minimalist trend with bright and vibrant colours.
Outfits to look out for with the minimalist trend, include suits and dresses which are simple but also have a luxurious feel to them. They may have a post modern look, and have sharp geometric cuts which will add to their unique quality. The beauty of this trend is that it gives the impression of someone who isn’t trying too hard, and is relaxed and comfortable in their style. Within the minimalist trend, you can also incorporate another key trend, which is colour blocking. You can particularly make use of neutral colours together, such as camel and ivory.
If you are looking to try this trend, but are not sure where to begin, some ideas of outfits to wear include; a crisp white shirt and plain grey skirt, a camel coloured jumper with fine detail and a subtle seam line, a pair of camel coloured everyday trousers and a simple dress in colours such as grey, white and camel, with subtle details.
When trying this look, it is also a good idea to keep your make up and accessories quite minimal. You want to dress the whole appearance down and keep it fresh, so stick to neutral coloured make up and a look which is fresh and uncomplicated. All too often we see ladies who are heavily made up, so this look is a refreshing change and will make you unique from the crowd. As small waist belts are so popular this season, it is a good idea to add one to your minimalist outfit and this will also help to accentuate and make the most of your waist. If you are opting for a camel coloured outfit, then a similarly coloured handbag will go really well.
The great thing about the minimalist trend, is that it takes little effort and can result in a seamless and fabulous look. Anyone can try this trend, which is set to become more and more popular during 2011.
A black shift dress is one of the items of clothes that every woman should have in their wardrobe. Just by changing your shoes and accessories it can change every look that you try. Shift dresses flatter every body shape and come in various colours and styles, which make them perfect to wear on any occasion â?? dressed up or dressed down.
If you go for the classic black shift dress, then take a look at the 5 different ways in which you can wear it for more than one occasion.
The Winter Look â?? thick tights with knee high boots
For ultimate winter style, try wearing your black shift dress with thick black tights and knee high boots. It is best to wear flat style winter boots as heeled boots will only start to turn the dress into an evening look. To break the outfit up, go for coloured accessories and a brightly coloured bag. Maybe even wear a woolly hat to go with the winter feel. The ideal, winter look for a shopping trip.
The Perfect Evening Dress â?? a shrug with strappy sandals
Team up your little shift dress with a glitzy shrug and some high heeled sandals for a great evening look. Go for different coloured sandals from the dress as this will help to create a colour burst in your outfit. Wear some simple, but sparkly jewellery which will add to the evening effect. Donâ??t forget your clutch bag, for extra glamour.
The 50s Effect â?? a Scarf
Team up a plain black shift dress with a brightly coloured scarf. Wearing a short scarf tied around the neck will give you the 50s feel. Or try a longer length scarf hung loosely around the neck, which will elongate your body shape; making you look taller and slimmer. Wear lower heels or flat shoes to dress down your look. Minimal accessories for this look and its best not to wear a necklace as it will only interfere with the scarf.
The Casual Look â?? Ballerina Style Pumps with a Cardigan
If you want to wear your shift dress in the daytime, but feel that itâ??s a little dressy, try and dress it down by wearing ballerina style flat shoes with a pretty coloured cardigan. Brighten up the dress by wearing a pink cardigan with pink flats or for a more demure look go for a deep purple cardigan and flats. Donâ??t over do the jewellery; a simple necklace which sits in the neckline will be perfect for the daytime, casual look.
The Smart Approach â?? Heels with a Tailored Jacket
Perhaps you have a big day at work and want to wear something different from the usual blouse and trousers look. Wear your shift dress with a pair of heels which will elongate your legs making you taller and accompany it with a smart tailored jacket. Again, simple accessories would complete the look, or go for a long string of pearls to really stand out against the black fabrics.
As the Winter weather descends, it can sometimes be difficult to know what clothes to wear to the office. Gone are the skimpy tops and heels from the summer, and out come the winter woollies. You want to find clothes which are appropriate for work, will keep you warm, but are also stylish enough to keep you looking good over the season. Luckily fashion designers have been working extra hard for us, and have came up with loads of gorgeous outfits to wear for work, over the winter.
If you enjoy wearing dresses to work, you can still wear these, even when the weather is cooler. Empire line and shift dresses are both styles which are very trendy this season, and are great styles for hiding any problem areas you want to cover up. The grey shift dress with black patent belt pictured above is a particularly versatile choice. Leather is one of the key trends for autumn/winter, so a leather dress, particularly in a camel colour, will look fabulous for wearing to the office. A comfortable knitted dress is another option for wearing to the office. If you choose to wear a dress over the Winter, you can’t really go bare legged, or you’ll end up freezing. Instead, wear a pair of warm, knitted tights for protection against the cold.
An alternative to a dress for work during the winter season, is a skirt. Styles such as pencil and leather, are highly trendy at the moment, and will look good with a blouse tucked in. A crisp white blouse, animal print or camel coloured, will keep your style fresh and fashionable. There are also lots of long sleeved tops options for wearing with your skirt. Add a pair of tights to keep your legs warm and cosy.
A long sleeved blouse or top, will also go well with a pair of everyday trousers, for an alternative look for the office, which will keep you warm. An oversized knitted jumper will also work well with a pair of trousers for work.
With any of these looks you can add a capelet or a warm winter coat for protection from the cold. A long, tweed or duffle coat, are ideal for wearing to the office, to keep the heat in, while maintaining your smart appearance. As camel is one of the key trends for this season, you can wear this colour for your winter coat, to keep you looking stylish.
When choosing footwear for work during the winter, keep an eye on some of the key trends. Depending on how cold the weather is, a pair of ankle or knee high boots will ensure your style is up-to-date, and again, look out for camel colours, as these are the hottest trend to be wearing this season. Wedge boots and kitten heels are also stylish options, but may not be suitable if you are wading to work through the snow. You can always wear boots to get to work, and change into a pair of slinky heels when you get there.
To complete your look for the office, you can add accessories such as a scarf and gloves. Leather gloves are a good choice to keep you looking smart, and a long knitted scarf, will ensure you are wrapped up warm for freezing conditions.

If you are quite curvaceous, then a gorgeous ruffled cocktail dress will hide the areas you want to cover up, while keeping your look stylish and glamorous. There are also short styles with long sleeves, which means you won’t be showing off too much flesh. All styles of cocktail dresses can be adapted depending on whether you choose to wear them during the day or for Christmas parties.
Maxi Dress
The maxi dress is a popular trend at the moment and is a style which will suit most body shapes. The dress sits just above floor length and is a perfect choice for those glamorous Christmas parties. Vintage is such an important trend this season, that a maxi dress in this style will keep you looking extremely fashionable this year. Bandeau and halter-neck maxi dresses will show off your assets, and most styles skim the hips, so they will flatter any shape of body. There are also lots of print style maxi dresses, which is another important trend for this season. To make your maxi dress look more expensive and glamorous, just team it up with some costumer jewellery, and a pair of stylish heels or wedges.
Shift Dress
A shift dress is a great buy for Christmas parties, as the style is quite loose, which means it will flatter any body shape, and there are lots of styles and lengths to choose from. The shift dress has grown in popularity over the years, so if you adorn this trend over the festive period, you will be sure to stand out from the crowd. Some styles of shift dress include ruffled animal print, which is a trend in itself this season, and long sleeved shift dresses, which are great if you want to cover up this area. Lace fabric shift dresses are also very stylish at the moment.
One Shoulder Dress
One shoulder dresses are another style which is popular at the moment, and will give you a subtly sexy look. Styles of these dresses include pencil, which is flattering for all body shapes, and embellished one shoulder dresses, which are glamorous and ideal for wearing for Christmas parties and nights out.
The Little Black Dress, or LBD, is every girls wardrobe essential and is a great outfit to dress up or down, depending on the occasion. Not only will the colour create an all over slimming effect, but it is also a dress you can wear time and again.
The trick to accessorising your LBD, is to tailor it to the situation you will be adorning it. For example, if your dress is being worn for an everyday occasion such as work, then you might want to wear a smart suit jacket over the top. It would also be advisable to keep your jewellery simple, and wear flat or small heeled shoes with or without tights, depending on the weather. A small handbag will top the look off nicely. The same rules would apply if your wearing your Little Black Dress to a job interview. Keep all accessories simple, and make sure you are wearing a black bra. Any other colour will only spoil your sophisticated look.
If you are wearing your LBD to an important event, such as a ball or black tie type occasion, then this is the time to really glamorise your look. Again, stick to wearing a black bra, and try to find one which will suit the type of dress you are wearing. You might want to opt for strapless or removable strap designs, depending on the style of your dress. Unsightly bra straps will compromise your gorgeous look, and make you stand out for all the wrong reasons. Jewellery for these types of occasions should be bit more adventurous than for everyday wear, although not to over the top. A charm bracelet and classic silver earrings are both options which are very stylish at the moment.
Heels for a formal event like this, should be a bit higher than for everyday wear, but not too high that you are hobbling and have a feeling of discomfort. Stick to shoes you know you can walk in, but have a sparkle to them. The good thing about black is that most colours will go with it, white, red, you name it. Why not invest in a clutch bag in a metallic silver colour, very trendy for this season. Finish the look off with a scarf, shrug or bolero in wonderful olive green or deep red/purple colours, for a look which will ensure you stay glamorous and stylish all night long.
If your Little Black Dress is joining you on the dance floor, then you can afford to experiment a bit more with it. Large high heeled shoes or knee high/thigh high boots, will suit this type of occasion, especially with patterned or fish net tights. Chunky accessories such as a waist enhancing belt, or pieces of jewellery, will help to create a funky look for those wild nights out.
Team up your LBD up with a pair of flip flops, oversized hat and sunglasses, for that perfect, understated look on the beach.
