Whilst what you wear is really important, how you wear it is even more important. Acessories are an important part of most outfits and without them an outfit often looks incomplete. A belt is one of the most useful accessories that you can own for completely transforming the look of an outfit. A belt can change the shape of a top dress or coat completely adding and defining your shape, it can also highlight a particular part of your body drawing the eye towards it. Finally a belt can make a statement in its own right, perhaps with an ornate buckle or some sort of embellishment or just by being a contrasting colour or texture to your outfit. A belt can also be very useful for holding your trousers up and covering the waistband of your trousers.

If you are very slim but would like to create the illusion of having curves, try wearing slightly baggy clothes cinched in at the waist with a belt. Over sized cardigans will work particularly well for the winter with a belt over it to add some shape. You can also try wearing a wide belt low over your hips which will create the impression of curves.

For those ladies lucky enough to have an ultra feminine hourglass shape, a belt is essential. As your waist is the narrowest part of your torso, you should always use a belt to really define and highlight it. Go for bold colours and interesting textures like patent and snakeskin. Generally speaking well fitted clothes will usually look best so the belt will not change the shape of the clothes just emphasis the waist. If you do decide to wear loose or baggy clothes, a belt is really important as it will prevent them from looking shapeless and define your shape.

Empire line dresses and tops are incredibly flattering for apple shaped ladies. They highlight the narrowest part of the torso and the fabric gently skims over the tummy. Generally those without a waist should not highlight the fact by wearing a belt around their waist but wearing it a little higher can give any dress or top the appearance of having an empire line. A belt in a contrasting colour worn over the empire line of the dress is also a great way to further draw attention to this area which is very flattering.

Pear shaped ladies usually have relatively narrow waists in comparison to their hips so a belt is a great way of drawing the eye up to the waist and away from the hips. Boot leg jeans and a line skirts worn with a fitted top will all look great with a belt around the waist.

You can even change the look of a coat of jacket by adding a belt. Try wearing a brown leather belt with your neutral rain coat or trench coat for a really stylish look.

There are so many of us ladies out there who just want to look and feel great in our clothes; feel fashionable and feel confident. In recent years we have started to discover the secret to looking fabulous- Body Shapes. If you know your correct body shape, then there is plenty of advice available on the types of clothes that you should wear, and the types that you should avoid. Of course, every single one of us looks different, and two pear-shaped people may be one taller than the other, or have a few more wobbly bits than the other. However, finding your shape isn’t always the exact case, but if you can find the one you are most similar to then you are already half-way to a better looking and more confident you!

Here is how to tell which body shape you are: The four most common shapes are Apple, Pear, Hourglass, and Rectangle. If you are an Apple shape, your upper body will be bigger than your lower so it is important to draw attention from your waist to your legs. Jeans are an excellent way to do this especially if they have back pockets to give your bottom a slight curve. Avoid tight/skinny jeans as they will make you look even bigger on top, avoid dark tops with lots of patterns, and wear A-line or short skirts 1-5inches above the knee. And wear the correct sized bra- four breasts is really unattractive!

For Pear shaped people (the most common) you usually have a smaller upper body than large so it’s important to find a balance between the two. Fitted tops in bright and light colours with different prints look fantastic and A-lined or flared skirts make your hips and legs look slimmer. With jeans and casual trousers, you should always stick to wide or straight legged types in darker colours. If you want to draw attention to your smaller top half and away from your hips, necklaces and earrings is a great way to do this.
If you are lucky enough to have an Hourglass figure, then you will have a perfect balance as your shoulders and curvy hips are equal in size. Do not be afraid of patterns- embrace them! They will completely accentuate your figure and make you look just wonderful! V-neck tops are probably the best look with some stretch denim jeans as they will accentuate your hips and narrow your waist even more than usual. For skirt lovers you should wear ¾ length or full length skirts, and the most important thing to remember is not to hide your fabulous figure with baggy clothes!

For Rectangle shaped ladies you will already know that you have a great pair of legs which you should proudly show off by wearing trousers or jeans with a low-rise, and back pockets to make your bottom look curvier. You can get away with wearing any type of skirt, pencil probably looking the most glamorous! Because your figure is straight up you should avoid wearing vertical patterns unless you want to look even thinner than you are (which isn’t always a good look) but go instead for scoop neck or v-neck tops to give you more of a curvy figure.

Hopefully this will give you an idea of what you are and what you should wear, so go and embrace it, have fun and look great!

Fitted tops or jackets – by drawing attention to your more slender upper half, you will divert attention away from your lower half. Belts – one of the best features of a pear shaped women is their slim waist. You can ensure that your waist is defined and draw attention to it by cinching in slightly baggy tops with a belt.

Heels – High or medium heeled shoes are a great way to add length to legs which in turn makes the appear thinner. If wearing a skirt wearing dark coloured tights and shoes also works well.

Jewellery or scarfs – accessories are a great way of drawing peoples attention to a particular area. Accessories on the upper half of the body such as scarves, necklaces and earrings will all draw attention upwards and away from the hips. Bracelets and bangles should be avoided as they will tend to draw attention to hip level.

Dark colours on the bottom – it is always a good idea for pear shaped woman to wear dark colours on the bottom half. This will help to slim your hips and thighs (visually) and make your overall shape appear balanced.

If you keep these points in mind when shopping for a pear shape, you will always look in proportion, no matter what your size or weight.
