If you are aware of your body shape and how to dress it, then chances are you will always look good. As we are all different, so too are our bodies, although there are common shapes which are shared by most females. One of the most common types of body shape is the pear shape. Pear shaped ladies tend to put weight on their lower half, and so, have bigger hips, thighs and bottoms. Needless to say, we all crave the body shape we don’t have but if you dress appropriately to suit your shape, then you can feel confident and comfortable with your body, no matter what size you are.

The trick to dressing a pear shaped body is to focus attention on your upper half and take attention away from your lower half. Pear shaped bodies tend to have small shoulders and slender stomachs, so you should take full advantage of these areas. Fitted tops will flatter your body shape, and halter neck tops are also fabulous for accentuating this area. Brightly coloured and patterned tops will draw attention to your upper half and focus attention away from lower half, and it was also bring attention to your face. If you decide to wear a low cut top then ensure you wear a bra which will give you a great cleavage.

Avoid wearing skirts and trousers which are too tight, as these will only make your lower half look bigger. Outlandish patterns and bright colours on your bottom half will also do you no favours, so stick to darker colours and looser clothing on this area. Dark blue or black jeans which are slightly flared are ideal, but stay away from trousers which are tight and of stretch material. Loose skirts will hide your bigger thighs and bottoms, and will bring focus to your upper half. A line skirts are particularly good options for an every day skirt as they are comfortable to wear and skim over the hips and thighs. For work, casual or the evening black trousers are a great choice as they tend to minimise the lower half of the body. They are also really versatile so with a variety of different tops. Wide legged trousers also work well for pear shaped ladies.

When it comes to accessories, wear these on your upper half as this will also make people look at your top half, rather than your lower half. To dress this shape of body you want to make sure you wear clothing which will keep everything in proportion. When choosing swimwear, the same rules apply. You should choose a swimsuit or bikini which will flatter your upper half and give you a great cleavage, and there are plenty on the market which cater for all different body shapes.

We all love to wear heels, and with this type of body shape, they will make your legs look longer and slimmer. Always remember to wear clothes you feel comfortable with, as this will make you appear more confident and at ease with yourself.

Sometimes we can all get stuck in a bit of a style rut where we tend to gravitate towards wearing the clothes that we feel comfortable in. Sometimes this can be an old favourite even though it is starting to look a little worn other times we tend to stick to the same styles and colours of clothing buying almost identical pieces over and over again. What we choose to wear each day plays an important part in our lives in terms of how we feel, our confidence and energy levels.

Wearing the same neutral coloured clothes can become a style rut (although neutrals are really in trend this year) and sometimes a little bit of a change can do us the world of good. Wearing bright clothes will make you feel happy, confident and energised but all too often people ar afraid of wearing bright colours. Spring and summer is a great time to wear bright clothes. The sun is out, everyone is happier and less likely to resort to those comfort zone clothes.

If you would like to dress in more colourful outfits, there is no need to wear head to toe bright colours. There are plenty of ways that you can introduce a pop of colour to an outfit without going overboard. Think about which colours you really like and which will go with existing outfits in your wardrobe and give them a try. There will be a range of colours that really suit your complexion and colouring and occasionally adding some of these to your outfit will really make you glow. You can even try combining colours that you don’t expect to go together, you might surprise yourself and find some great combinations, think about clashing colours like red and orange. How you combine colours is almost as important as what colours you choose to wear in the first place. For example red against a black outfit will look very different to red against a white background.

Here are some great ways that you can add a pop of colour to your outfits for spring:

white tailored jacket

A coloured scarf - a scarf is such an easy way to add colour to a neutral outfit. You can go for a plain one coloured scarf or more complex patterned scarf. Scarves work well for both smart and casual outfits. Try combining with t-shirts and jeans or trouser suits.

red clutch bag

A coloured clutch bag - a brightly coloured clutch bag is a really good way to add a bit of interest to a plain black or navy dress. You could also try pastel colours with a beige or neutral dress.

rose and beige floral print blouse

A patterned blouse - floral, geometric, spots or stripes are all great patters for adding a bit of colour to a plain coloured suit.

Shoes – a coloured pair of shoes with a plain outfit is a great way to add some colour with out taking away the simplicity of the outfit. Try some coloured patent ballet pumps for a chic and stylish look.
