Long black dress with empire line detail
Christmas is a wonderful time to relax, recharge the batteries and catch up with family and friends. It is also the time of year when we tend to eat and drink far too much, and then frantically try to shed the pounds during January. It is the time of year when we can get away with it, so rather than torture yourself about the extra weight, you can easily disguise your over indulgence with some carefully selected clothing.
Empire Line Dress
Empire Line Dresses are not only stylish, but they are also flattering for any body shape. The fit of the dress is such that it flattens out your stomach area, and skims the lower half of your body, so will hide any extra weight you have put on over the festive period. Empire line dresses can be dressed up or down, depending on the occasion.
Figure Fixing Trousers
Wear trousers which are either mid-rise or high-rise to flatten out your tummy area, and hide any extra weight. Trousers which flare out at the bottom can also be flattering if you want to disguise a larger bottom half. If you are looking for jeans, you should avoid skinny jeans as these will cling to the areas you want to hide, and choose styles such as bootleg or boyfriend.
Woollens
Woollen outfits, such as knitted jackets or jumpers, will disguise over-indulgence around the midriff area. These will also keep you warm and cosy for the cold weather, during the autumn and winter seasons.
Long Tops
Tops which sit below the waist area will also help hide any extra weight. Tunic styles are a favourite, and are very stylish this season. These sit quite loosely and skim the areas you might want to disguise, rather than clinging too tightly. Add a belt to create and draw attention to your waist area.
Choose slimming colours
It is well known that the colour black can take inches off your body weight, and create a very slimming effect. It can, however, be very boring if you wear this colour day in and day out, so look at other alternatives which will have the same effect. If you wear the same colour, any colour, on both your top and bottom half, this will also create the same slimming effect as black, and hide any additional festive weight. Attention will be drawn in a smooth vertical line, so it will instantly elongate your figure, and make you look slimmer.
Choose the right style
Think about the areas which you have put on the most extra weight. If you are pear shaped, it is likely that the weight has gone straight to your bottom half, whereas if you have an apple shaped body, it has probably gathered around your midriff. Choose styles which will hide the areas you have put on the most weight, and show off the slimmer areas. For instance, if you want to disguise your midriff, wear a longer, looser top, and show off your legs with a pair of leggings, to balance out your look.
It is not long now until Christmas and for many of us thoughts will be turning to Christmas shopping and Christmas parties. One of the decisions to make this Christmas will be which glamorous party outfit to wear. Most people will opt to wear a dress but some will also choose trousers and a smart top. As it is now winter you will also want to think about party cover ups. What will you wear over your beautiful dress to travel to and from the party and will you need a smaller and lighter cover up to wear during the party or dinner either because you prefer not to show the tops of your arms or you just get cold.
A cover up for travelling to and from a party will usually be a longer and warmer style as it will need to keep your from freezing when you have to go outside. A cover up that you wear inside and during a party will be very different. It will usually be quite a short style to prevent it form interfering with the line of your party dress. It can also be either plain to compliment an elaborate dress or with plenty of detail to compliment a simple style of dress.
Here are our top 5 glamorous party cover ups for the party season:
Brown Animal Print Tape Detail Short Sleeve Bolero
This detailed bolero would look great with either a plain black or brown dress or the matching dress which has vertical stripes in the same animal print tape. The tape adds an interesting pattern to the bolero and is great for brightening up a dress in a subtle way. It would look particularly good when accessorised with gold accessories.

When it comes to practicality and warmth for the winter, it doesn’t get much better than the jumper dress. It can be worn with thick opaque tights or leggings and boots for a really cosy and stylish outfit. We love this black and grey knitted dress with sequin detail.
The Fifties Style Dress
Fifties style dresses are a huge trend this winter with the hit TV show Mad Men being a major influence. Look out for dresses that flare from the waist for a feminine and lady like look. This style of dress looks best with heels and a hand bag over the arm. We love this khaki wrap over dress with satin waist trim. The wrap over style is particularly flattering and a great way of defining the waist.
The Shift Dress
The classic shift dress is one of the most versatile styles of dress. It never goes out of fashion and works for so many different occasions. This beautiful shift dress is perfect for wearing to a drinks party or any evening do, just add a great pair of heels and a beautiful clutch.

AÂ t shirt dress is a really comfortable choice for the winter as it is made from jersey. It can also look elegant and works really well with the seasons minimalist trend. The Evening Dress
Everyone needs an evening dress for Christmas parties and black is the usual choice of colour. This winter maxi dresses and long evening dresses are really fashionable and if you fancy a change from black why not try red, black and white or grey?
Which ever dress you choose to wear make sure that you have a great jacket or cardigan to go with it so that you are both warm and stylish.
Any moment now, the Christmas party invites will be starting to arrive. Whether itâ??s a work do or a Christmas Ball, you will want to choose the right dress. Itâ??s so much easier for men who can just put on a suit or a dinner jacket but not nearly as much fun. Christmas time means you can really go to town with your dress. For fabrics, think taffeta, chiffon and velvet. When it comes to the style, there are endless possibilities. Do you prefer long or short, slim line and elegant or a fuller more extravagant number? It probably depends on the type of event, although these days the choice between cocktail dress or a full length evening or ball gown is a little more blurred than it used to be. Black tie doesnâ??t have to mean long! This means you can choose the perfect dress to suit you, whatever your age and your figure, regardless of the occasion. Donâ??t forget to try your dress on with the right shoes, particularly with a long dress; this is really important as the height of the heel can make a real difference to how the dress looks on you. High heels always look lovely but if you are going to be dancing all night make sure you find a pair that are comfortable as well as looking great to go with your dress.
The little black dress is the classic party dress. Choose one with the right cut to suit you and accessorise correctly and it is a sure-fire way to look amazing! There is a wide variation of styles so this dress can suit every age and every figure. Itâ??s just a question of finding the right dress. This classic round necked dress, with a fitted bodice and a flared skirt, is the perfect little black dress. The length is flattering and easy to wear.
These days for a black tie event, a little black dress is often acceptable but many people prefer a long evening dress. Again black is always a good choice and very flattering but personally I prefer a splash of colour and it certainly helps if you want to make an impression. For Christmas time, red or green is always very seasonal and festive. I love this beautiful chiffon triple layer red dress. The silky chiffon fabric is perfect party wear. The dress has a flattering v-neck and fitted bodice with a flared skirt. The delicate beadwork detail to the thick straps adds something special. It even comes with a matching scarf. If you want to get noticed, this is the dress to wear!
If you want to go really formal, there is nothing like a classic ball gown. There is something of a fairytale feel about a ball gown that makes you feel really feminine and special. This sleeveless black ball gown is stunning. It has a boat neckline with an A-line skirt, but what really makes it stand out it the stunning white floral embroidery and beading. I just love these details, which make the dress stand out from all the other black dresses you are likely to see.
If you are attending any semi formal or cocktail parties over the next few months, then, you will no doubt be wanting a really amazing cocktail dress that will look stunning. A cocktail dress is usually a style of dress that is calf length or above (as opposed to a full or floor length evening or ball dress). A cocktail dress is dressy but also practical allowing plenty of movement for dancing. It is also usually made from luxurious fabrics with eye catching details like sequins or embellishment.
Velvet Cocktail Dress In Black
This dress is both striking and flattering. It has an empire line which is emphasised by the ribbon and bow around it. It is made from a beautiful crushed velvet and has chiffon shoulder and godet details. The material is stretchy making it incredibly comfortable and easy to move in. This dress is a really classic style that will never go out of fashion. It also comes with a matching scarf.
Ladies Long Lace Evening/Prom/Ball Dress in Black
Lace is incredibly on trend at the moment and this dress makes the most of the delicate design by lining it with a red fabric. The style of the dress is simple but elegant with a three quarter length skirt that is also very on trend at the moment.
Black chiffon pleated cocktail dress with shawl
This dress is a Marilyn Monroe style and is perfect for those searching for a little retro glamour. It has a velvet bodice with delicate shoe string straps and a skirt in finely pleated chiffon. The skirt of this dress is perfect for swishing as you dance. It just needs a beautiful pair of black shoes to set it off perfectly.
Black embroidered assymetrical evening dress
Another key look for party, cocktail and evening dresses at the moment is the assymetrical shape. Many of the dresses are one shouldered but this dress features a much more wearable version of this trend which is the different shaped straps on each side. It has delicate ribbon and thread detail and there is also a matching bolero available.
What to wear with you cocktail dress?
A pair of high heels is almost essential with a cocktail dress however if you really find high heels difficult to walk in, you can find some very pretty lower kitten style heels or even some embellished flat shoes. A small clutch bag is the ideal way to carry a few possesions with you but they wont usually fit much in them so you may have to leave the i phone at home for just one evening. If your dress is quite simple look for clutch with sequin or bead detail to add an interesting feature.
Finally, you may want a cover up for your cocktail dress either to wear all of the time or just to travel to and from the party. There are all sorts of bolero, cape and evening jackets available. Again if you have quite a simple dress then you can afford to go over board with a statement cover up piece. If your dress already has quite a bit of interest, then opt for a plain black option.
