Everyday Hats
The winter’s here again, and it’s time to wrap yourself up warm and prepare for the cold weather ahead. The best place to start is at the top, by choosing the perfect hat; one which you can not only wear everyday, but will also keep you protected from the falling temperatures. These days there are loads of hats to choose from, which you can team up with almost any style of outfit. Since fur is very fashionable this season, the knitted fur or faux fur trapper hat are ideal choices for the winter months. These hats are designed in a style which is extremely well insulated, and will cover your whole head. They also have side ear flaps for added protection, making them a great choice if you are out hill walking on a frosty day, or partaking in outdoor sports. They are usually accessorised with side plaits and/or pom poms.
The classic beret hat is a style which is also very trendy this season, and has many different designs. The knit beret hat comes in variations including the cable knit beret; a small, thick woollen hat, guaranteed to keep you warm and snug during the cold months. There is also the lightweight knit beret, which is made from thinner wool and is basically a lighter style of the cable knit beret hat. Crochet beret hats are another fluctuation of this style, and, as bows are very trendy just now, you can’t go wrong with a bow detail beret hat.
Other casual, everyday styles of hats include the crochet beanie, which covers the whole head to keep you well insulated and comfortable, but is also extremely fashionable this season.
The military and baker boy hats are a great option if the style you are looking for is for a more formal occasion, such as for work or for a night out. These styles will keep you looking smart and sophisticated, and right on trend for this season.
Occasion Hats
If you have a forthcoming special occasion, such as a wedding, you may be considering wearing a hat, but not quite sure which styles are in trend at the moment. Feathered hats are always a popular trend at weddings, and most styles tend to have some kind of feather detail to them. They are also very fashionable at the moment. The types of design of occasion hats which are good current choices, include down brim, wide brim and slanted brim styles. Bows are a firm favourite on the catwalk at the moment, so hats with bow detail are a great choice for an occasion, such as a winter wedding.
Some people find hats a bit overpowering and fussy, so a great alternative is a fascinator. Fascinators are simple headpieces which are attached to the hair, and are ideal for special occasions. As with the hats, fascinators can be found in a variety of trendy styles, including those with mesh and looped detail. Feather, flower, bows and bead are other alternative, glamorous designs.
Cheltenham Gold Cup, Ascot Ladies Day, Aintree and the Epsom Derby are all great events an important part of the British racing calender. For those who enjoy getting dressed up, having a bit of a flutter along with a glass or two of champagne, you can’t really beat a day at the races. If you are planning to go to any race days this summer, you may be slightly confused about what to wear and if there is any etiquette that you should follow, but it is really quite simple and once you have decided what to wear, you are sure to have a great time.
The type of dress that you should wear will vary for different race courses, events and also which enclosure that you have tickets for. Most race courses will provide some information with regards to dress codes on their website. For some of the really big racing events, the fashion is a really big part of the day. At Ascot ladies day, not only will you get to see some great horse racing but also some great outfits and really eye catching and unusual hats. There is almost a competiton to see who can wear the most stylish and unusual hats.
As a general rule, the more expensive your ticket is, the formal the dress code will be. So if you have a premier ticket at Ascot with access to exclusive areas of  the grandstand, men will be required to wear a suit or jacket and tie. Women are expected to wear equally smart clothes. Those with tickets to the Grandstand are also required to dress smartly and lasies to wear hats. For those in other areas of the racecourse, whilst there is no formal dress code, the organisers encourage smart dress and why not, such a great opportunity to get dressed up.
So what is smart enough to work as a great race day outfit? I always like to wear dresses. A feminine and elegant choice that will allow you to look individual and stylish whilst sticking to any dress code. A dress looks great when worn with a hat or if you don’t like wearing hats, a fascinator. Medium height heels and a smart clutch bag also finish the look off perfectly.
Many race courses now have best dressed awards on Ladies Day presented by celebrities. If you want to have a chance at winning the award, we would suggest choosing an individual outfit that really suits your body shape. Also choose your colour carefully. You should pick a style of hat that really suits your face shape. If the weather is not warm, you will also want some sort of cover up, look for something that really compliments your choice of dress. Finally accessorise with style remembering that sometimes less is more.
You will usually be able to find great race day outfits in occasion dresses shops and departments. Three quarter length dresses or even maxi dresses usually work really well, although shorter dresses are acceptable. If you want to stand out from the crowd opt for bright, bold and punchy colour blocks or patterns.
Your daughters wedding, is an incredibly important and happy event. This will signal a new episode in your daughters life and maybe yours as well. It will also be a celebration of not only your daughters new life with her new husband, but also a new relationship and connection between two families. Your daughters wedding day will be memorable day for everyone involved, not quite as important to you as your own wedding day, but almost.
As Mother of the Bride, you will probably spend quite a bit of time thinking about your outfit. You will want to look your best on the day and of course in the photographs. Here are some important considerations when choosing your Mother of the Bride outfit.
The Bride and Bridesmaids- The big day is not really about being the centre of attention, this is of course the brides privilege, but in your supporting role, you will also want to look stunning. You should check how elaborate the brides outfit will be. If  the bride has opted for a simple look, try not to choose an outfit that is too elaborate. You will want to stand out from the other guests, after all, you are a very important part of the wedding party.Wear what every colour you like and know that looks good on you. Of course white is a big no no and it would be a good idea to perhaps consider what the bridesmaids are wearing. Don’t wear the same colour as the bridesmaids but a colour that compliments would look great.
The Mother of the Groom – it would be a nice idea to consult with the mother of the groom on what you are wearing. You obviously won’t want to both turn up in exactly the same colour or very similar styles.
Dress or Suit - either a dress or suit will be appropriate for even the most formal or weddings. Depending on the weather, you may want to choose a tailored jacket to wear with a dress to keep you warm especially if the wedding reception goes on until the evening. Boleros and shrugs are also an elegant way to cover your arms.
The Hat- It is traditional (although not compulsory)Â for the Mother of the Bride to wear a hat. This is where you can really stand out from the crowd. Choose something elegant that compliments your outfit but it doesn’t have to be the same colour as your outfit. Try on a variety of different styles to see which looks best with your outfit and suits your face shape.
Shoes - It is likely to be a long day and you may well be on your feet for much of it, meeting and greeting friends and family, helping with arrangements and generally socialising. A comfy and stylish pair of shoes is essential. If you are buying new shoes, try them out in advance to make sure that they are comfortable, if they are not, it might ruin the day for you.
What ever you decide to wear, make sure it is something that makes you feel good. It is important that your wear what you feel comfortable in and enjoy yourself.
