Hardly a season goes by without one colour or another being declared as the ‘new black’. Black is widely considered to be the most versatile and wearable colour of all (although it is not technically a colour). It is slimming and goes with just about anything. For some it is inconcieveable that any colour could possibly live up to black, it forms the basis of their wardrobe for summer and winter. But it does have its downfalls, it can be warm when out in the sun in the summer, it can be draining on the complexion and it can get just a little bit boring if you wear it all of the time. This summer has seen beige and a whole range of other neutrals named as the new black. This summer beige definitely seem to be a contender for the position of ‘the new black’. Beige has been everywhere from evening dressesand party dresses in the form of frothy frilly romantic pieces to more structured and minimalistic work wear. It can even make a great substitute for the little black dress, although I am not sure that anything fully replace this classic item no matter what colour.

Looking at the trends for seasons ahead including the winter it seems that beige may be here to stay, for a while anyway. This means that any beige or neutral pieces that you buy now are likely to be a great investment for future seasons. Beige is probably one of the few colours that can really rival black on either the versatility or style fronts. Whilst other colours like perhaps grey, brown or white may go with lots of other colours and be as flexible as beige, they do not have the same sophisticated and stylish feel as beige. Beige is often used to describe cover a whole range of different colours from cream to camel and real beige so there really is a shade for everyone. Beige is also no where near as draining as black or even dark brown on the complexion.

If you don’t really think of yourself as a beige sort of person, it does not have only be worn in those neutral, all beige sorts of outfits, it also combines perfectly with bright colours, pastel colours and just about any other sort colours that you like. Beige acts as a great canvas for which to add all sorts of coloured and patterned accessories and it shows them off to perfection without competing with them in anyway.

Beige is also one of those colours that works perfectly for those items that need to go with everything from everyday coats to handbags and shoes. The camel coat was massive last winter and for a very good reason. It looks amazing with any colour outfit from black to bright red.

Beige even looks great when combined with black so if you are reluctant to dump black in favour of beiged, why not try combining the two at least until you get a taste of what beige has to offer and are ready to fully accept that beige really is the new black.
