Choosing the perfect outfit to wear for a winter wedding can be very daunting, and it can sometimes be difficult to get your look just right. You might not be used to wearing dresses, but luckily there are lots of stylish dresses on trend at the moment, which cater for different needs and body shapes.
Zig Zag Hemline / Ribbon Tie / One Shoulder Dresses
Classic dresses can look fantastic in styles such as those which incorporate a zig zag hemline, giving your look a sophisticated and fun edge. Ribbon tie dresses are ideal for those of us who are lucky enough to have a small waist, as this style will draw attention to this area and make it look even smaller. The ribbon tie also adds a touch of glamour to your outfit and is very stylish for this season. One shoulder dresses have been in fashion for a while now and come in various styles and colours. These trends will add a touch of glamour to a winter wedding.
Tunic Dresses
Tunic dresses are very flattering for pear shaped ladies, as they skim the hips, and sit just above the knees. The style is simple and classy, which makes it a great option for a winter wedding. Available in a variety of patterns, prints and colours, the tunic dress looks elegant in both cotton and silk material. Sleeve lengths range from short to long.
 Maxi Dress
Another great style for pear shaped bodies is the in style maxi dress. The maxi dress has been fashionable for a long time now and the trend is set to continue. Sitting just above floor length, styles of the maxi dress includes one shoulder, and  with or without straps. Some styles pinch in tightly at the waist, giving a very flattering look and the halter neck styles will ensure your bust looks fantastic. These dresses are timeless, so can be worn again and again.
 Cocktail / Puffball/ Babydoll Dresses
If you are feeling a bit more daring and want to show off your legs, then you can’t go wrong with the original cocktail dress. Cocktail dresses are classic glamour which has been around for centuries, and you can’t really go wrong with this style of dress. If you don’t mind braving the cold, then the puffball and baby doll dresses are also great alternatives.
Bustier Dresses
Bustier dresses are another choice for a winter wedding, and they will accentuate your bust, no matter what size you are on top. The styles of these can be both strapless or with straps, and will make you look marvellous in either variation.
Shrugs and Boleros
Since it is dresses for winter weddings we are looking at, it may be wise to look at teaming your outfit with gorgeous boleros and shrugs. Worn over your dress, these   long sleeved cardigan style sheathing’s will not only keep you warm, but will cover up your arms, if this is a problem area for you. With both plain and patterned styles to choose from, these are a great accompaniment to your outfit.
You may have written off maxi dresses as a trend for young twenty something girls or very tall people, but the maxi dress is an elegant choice for ladies of any age. They have a number of great qualities which make them a flattering and feminine option for all sorts of occasions including as evening dresses, occasion dresses, casual or even beach wear. The maxi dress is moving from the realms of high fashion to become a classic style of dress that almost everyone wants to own. It is particularly suitable for summer due to its long flowing nature but maxi dresses are also great for more formal occasions in the winter or casual when made of a slightly thicker jersey fabric.
One of the most endearing qualities of the maxi dress is that it covers the legs completely. For those who don’t like showing off their legs it is a great way to look ultra feminine and elegant. It removes all those worries about whether to wear tights or not and whether your legs look too white. The long skirt is incredibly flattering for those with a pear shaped figure or larger legs, calves or ankles.
Most maxi dresses have an empire line. This describes the seam that runs just below the bust that creates the illusion of a high waist. The beauty of this style is that the fabric hangs loosely from just below the bust so it does not cling or emphasise the tummy area. This aspect of the maxi dress makes it especially flattering for those with an apple shaped figure or rounder tummy. The empire line is also a classic style that adds to the femininity of the maxi dress.
During the summer months, when the weather is hot you may long for something to wear that looks stylish and glamorous without being too warm. The maxi dress is the perfect choice as it is so loose fitting. It will look great for weddings or summer parties and can easily be dressed up with heels, a cluch bag and some stunning jewellery. Alternatively a more casual style of maxi dress works perfectly as a beach cover up or for wearing with sandals for everyday wear.
There are so many choices of maxi dress available that there is something available to suit any body shape or ocassion. For those who would like to cover up their arms, it is possible to get maxi dresses with short sleeves. Alternatively maxi dresses look great when worn with a short cropped cardigan. Halter necks, high necks and spaghetti straps are also options depending on what looks best on you.
The maxi dress is a trend that looks like it is going to be here to stay for some time. Anyone can find a maxi dress that looks amazing, they just need to pick the style carefully. If you are short, a maxi dress looks great with wedge heels, you should also look for a style that has a fairly slim fit skirt. Shorter ladies should also avoid large scale patterns which can over power them.
It seems that the whole world is talking about the new Sex and the City Film which premiered at the the New York City Music Hall this week. Patricia Field is the stylist for the film and her mix of extravagant and stylish fashion is part of what has made the series and films so popular. Of course the storyline is important too and everyone will be wanting to know what happens to Carrie and Big but for many it is the and clothes by designers like Marc Jacobs that is the draw. What we love about SATC is that the girls never wear a plain old pair of jeans and t shirt.
The Sex and the City series has a very important influence on fashion over the years. It is the styling of Patricia Field that has brought hair flowers, Manolo Blahnik shoes and expensive designer handbags to the masses. But the Sex and the City Style is not all about spending lots of money. There are plenty of ways that you can take inspiration from the new film and create a great look without spending too much money.
Each of the characters in Sex and the City 2 has their own unique style that suits their personality and role in the film do well.
Carrie the main character played by Sarah Jessica Parker is well known for her simple but very stylish look and dramatic accessories. Her long honey coloured hair is definitely part of her signature style. She loves shoes and handbags and is incredibly fashionable. The SATC 2 film also sees Carrie wearing a number of dresses by Halston Heritage, not surprising really as she is the Creative Director for the label.
Samantha played by Kim Katrall has a sexy but very strong style with a heavy nineties influence. Power suits and body con dresses are important part of her wardrobe. She loves bold bright colours which match her personality perfectly.
Charlotte is played by Kristin Davis and has a sweet preppy style. She loves clothes with frill and bows and colours like bright candy pink. Her outfits are always accompanied by the perfect combination of shoes and handbags.
Miranda is a high powered career girl and has plenty if suits to match this role. Her look is often androgynous with bright autumnal colours to match her bright red hair.
Here are some of our favourite pieces from SATC.
Maxi Dresses Galore
All of the SATC girls love maxi dresses. They are the perfect thing to wear for sipping champagne on a sunny balcony.
Carrie’s checked shirt
Only Carrie could make casual look so glam. A simple fitted checked shirt teamed with cropped trousers or jeans and of course some killer heels is a really easy way to create her look.
Charlotte’s pink frills
This magenta lace detail top is the perfect piece for SATC’s Charlotte. In the film she wore a beautiful pink frilled suit by Dior this top recreates this look.
Miranda’s beautifully coloured clothes
We think this emerald green georgette silk trim dress would go so well with Miranda’s vibrant red hair. Other colours like orange, yellow and red would also look amazing.
Samantha’s pencil skirt suit
You can get Samantha’s strong bold look with a bright primary colour suit with a pencil skirt. Team with a camisole top and heels.
Summer has finally arrived and we can’t wait for more of that lovely sunshine. With the weather reaching up to the thirties this weekend, keeping cool and comfortable is likely to be one of your key considerations. Have you ever noticed how, when the sun comes out, women seem to make a bit more effort about what they wear? Out come the beautiful summer dresses, the crisp white trousers and bold bright prints. Summer dresses are probably the easiest and most comfortable way to keep cool on a really hot summer day and always look really stylish.
The best summer dresses for keeping cool in are cotton or natural fabrics like linen. Synthetic fabrics will make you feel warmer and will make you sweat more. Always opt for quite loose fitting clothes as they will allow your skin to ‘breathe’. You should also opt for lighter colours if you will be out in the sun as they will not get so warm. Finally a wide brimmed hat is a great investment to keep the sun off your face neck and shoulders. If this is too much for wearing out and about, a smaller brimmed hat will also help keep you cool and give your head and face some protection. Â
Floral dresses
Floral dresses are perfect for a hot summers day. They are colourful and will make you feel really happy. For a light and airy summer dress that does not soak up too much heat from the sun, opt for a print with coloured flowers on a white background. We love this ivory and turquiose crinkle cotton dress as it is so bright but also loose and comfortable, it is ideal for days out, casual parties and sitting in the garden.
Maxi Dresses
The beauty of maxi dresses is that they allow you to keep cool without showing off too much of your body. They are perfect for covering up white legs or larger hips and thighs. Their loose fitting empire line is great for keeping cool and looking glamorous, elegant and stylish. Maxi dresses can work for all sorts of occasions including parties or more formal events, casual daytime and holidays.
Sun dresses
Sun dresses are just as the name suggests for wearing in the sun. The are usually fairly simple styles that are made of cotton and just below knee length. We love this black and white ditsy floral crinkle dress, the crinkled texture of the fabric allows it to be loose fitting and comfortable without appearing too loose and shapeless.
Shift dresses
A shift dress is a great alternative to a suit for keeping cool at work on a hot summers day. For a more conservative work place a dress with sleeves would be best. You can add a suit jacket if you work in an air conditioned building which can sometimes be much cooler than the outside temperature.
Looking stylish in the heat is all about combining style and comfort. The outfits that keep you the coolest are likely to look the most stylish as a red and shiny face is never a great look.
