The Little Black Dress, or LBD, is every girls wardrobe essential and is a great outfit to dress up or down, depending on the occasion. Not only will the colour create an all over slimming effect, but it is also a dress you can wear time and again.
The trick to accessorising your LBD, is to tailor it to the situation you will be adorning it. For example, if your dress is being worn for an everyday occasion such as work, then you might want to wear a smart suit jacket over the top. It would also be advisable to keep your jewellery simple, and wear flat or small heeled shoes with or without tights, depending on the weather. A small handbag will top the look off nicely. The same rules would apply if your wearing your Little Black Dress to a job interview. Keep all accessories simple, and make sure you are wearing a black bra. Any other colour will only spoil your sophisticated look.
If you are wearing your LBD to an important event, such as a ball or black tie type occasion, then this is the time to really glamorise your look. Again, stick to wearing a black bra, and try to find one which will suit the type of dress you are wearing. You might want to opt for strapless or removable strap designs, depending on the style of your dress. Unsightly bra straps will compromise your gorgeous look, and make you stand out for all the wrong reasons. Jewellery for these types of occasions should be bit more adventurous than for everyday wear, although not to over the top. A charm bracelet and classic silver earrings are both options which are very stylish at the moment.
Heels for a formal event like this, should be a bit higher than for everyday wear, but not too high that you are hobbling and have a feeling of discomfort. Stick to shoes you know you can walk in, but have a sparkle to them. The good thing about black is that most colours will go with it, white, red, you name it. Why not invest in a clutch bag in a metallic silver colour, very trendy for this season. Finish the look off with a scarf, shrug or bolero in wonderful olive green or deep red/purple colours, for a look which will ensure you stay glamorous and stylish all night long.
If your Little Black Dress is joining you on the dance floor, then you can afford to experiment a bit more with it. Large high heeled shoes or knee high/thigh high boots, will suit this type of occasion, especially with patterned or fish net tights. Chunky accessories such as a waist enhancing belt, or pieces of jewellery, will help to create a funky look for those wild nights out.
Team up your LBD up with a pair of flip flops, oversized hat and sunglasses, for that perfect, understated look on the beach.
There is one piece of evening wear that is so incredibly versatile that it will be suitable for almost any evening occasion you could ever attend. It is one of those pieces clothing that really earns its place in your wardrobe with the multiple opportunities that you have to wear it. It is classic and will never go out of fashion and it can be accessorised in many different ways for a slightly different look for each occasion that you attend. If you haven’t already guessed I am talking about the black evening dress. It is the older and more formal sister of the iconic little black dress. It is suitable for even the most formal of occasions and once you have a black evening dress you will never be left with a dilemma about what to wear at a dressy party.
An evening dress will usually be floor length, although sometimes a three quarter length style will also be suitable. It is usually made of luxurious fabrics like chiffon, silk and velvet for an extravagant look. The great thing about black evening dresses is their simplicity which is what makes them so elegant. A simple black column shaped biased cut dress with spaghetti straps looks amazing and incredibly glamourous, especially when accessorised with some black heels, a sparkly necklace and clutch bag.
The beauty of this black evening dress is its simple understated elegance. It looks like it is a separate top and skirt, but it is actually a separate skirt and top. The cut of this evening dress is flattering for all body types and the short sleeves are great if you prefer to keep your arms covered up.
This black full length satin evening dress makes a feature of the neckline with the black and white stripe bow. It has a lace up back which is perfect for ensuring just the right fit. It has a really flattering shape which hugs the body flaring out at the hem.
This three quarter ength evening dress is delicate and floaty. The skirt has godets which allow it to flare out when you twirl. It also has pleated straps with sequin and flower detail on the front. It can be worn with or without the scarf depending the look you would like to achieve.
This three quarter length evening dress is fully lined with a great asymetric neckline that is really flattering. A simple pair of black high heels and embellished clutch will set this dress off perfectly.
A black evening dress will always look amazing but how you accessorise it will make a big difference. If the dress is a really simple style you can opt to wear a statement necklace. For a more elaborate design of dress a more simple style of dress will look best. High heels and kitten heels will both work well and a small beaded handbag or clutch is the most suitable way to carry your possessions around.
For many years now, most women have kept one thing in their wardrobe for any occasion that might crop up- a little black dress! Black dresses are a very â??safeâ?? item of clothing to keep- always in fashion, hides lumps and bumps, and just about everyone has one! But as times and fashions are changing, perhaps itâ??s time to move away from â??the little black dressâ??- and instead move to the little blue dress, or green dress, or even white dress! That may all be very well for younger women, but these days brighter colours look just as wonderful on all women of all ages and to be seen in lively colours tells people that you know how to look great!
If you are brave enough to turn your back on the black and try something bright and fun, an excellent colour to start with is green. Green is a really sensible colour to stick with, and matches almost everyoneâ??s skin tone and hair colour. Green is really in style at the moment so now would be an excellent time to get yourself a green dress. You can wear green both during the day and in the evening, so if you are opting for more of a day dress you cannot go wrong with strappy or sleeveless sundresses. An excellent choice at Roman Originals is the Green Multi Print Sun Dress which looks absolutely stunning and is enough to make any 20-year old jealous! Of course, you can convert it to evening wear by simply adding a green cardigan over the top.
Another fabulous colour is blue. Blues, especially bright and deep blues, have always looked beautiful on any woman, again with any skin tone or hair colour. If you are opting for this colour for daytime wear, itâ??s always best not to be â??too blueâ?? and choose a dress that has some white or other colour blended into it, such as Roman Originalâ??s Ivory Turquoise Round Neck Dress. It has a stunning blue silk tie around the waist and on the hem. A dress like this could pass of as an evening dress if you combine it with a bolero. If you are looking for an alternative black dress purely for the evening, Roman Originals have some really beautiful blue dresses. The most glamorous is the Jade A-Line satin dress- itâ??s so elegant and beautiful, youâ??ll wonder why you never bought one before now!
White is also a good alternative to black, however, you should be careful when it comes to choosing the cut as anything billowy and white can easily be mistaken for a wedding dress! A safe way to avoid looking like a bride at someone elseâ??s wedding is to choose a white patterned dress. Delicate and pale floral prints always go down a treat, but perhaps the most stylish this season is a white dress with black prints on as itâ??s stated as bold. Black on white looks really good when wearing an A-Line dress or anything that flows as it catches the eye pleasantly rather than a short sharp contrast. However, if youâ??re not quite ready to ditch your little black dress, Roman Originals still have some stunning new styles in black. A really good look which is featured on some of their black dresses is the white contrast- a large white band around the middle, or a black and white stripe bow detail situated above the breast. Either way, you can now update your wardrobe and look super stylish and elegant!
Cocktail dress is a term that means slightly different things to different people. It is basically a little less formal than a ball dress but still quite formal or ‘semi formal’. Some would describe it as the short knee length dress style worn in the 1920′s whilst others consider it a much broader term used to describe any semi formal dress with length varying according to the fashions of the time. If you are lucky enough to be invited to a cocktail party or an event that requires cocktail dress, there is huge choice of potential evening dresses that you could wear from knee length (or even mini) to maxi. Just to confuse things cocktail dress can sometimes be described as ‘informal’ on the invitations, but this term also sometimes describes smart casual. So if unsure, it is always worth checking out with the host. For men cocktail dress will usually mean a dark coloured suit and dress shirt.
Generally cocktail dresses are made from fabrics like chiffon, satin, lace and taffeta. They often have details like embellishments, sequin and beading making them something a little bit special. Cocktail dresses can be worn for any sort of party or occasion. These days the word cocktail dress is used to describe all sorts of dresses from evening gowns to much shorter party dresses. What you choose to wear will depend very much on the party that you are going to and your own individual style. Here are a few ideas:
The Little Black Dress
The little black dress is probably one of the all time most popular choices for semi formal evening wear or cocktail dresses. It is incredibly versatile, classic and flattering. The empire line style of this dress is a great style for those who want to disguise their tummies.
The Asymmetrical dress
Assymetrical dresses are very much on trend at the moment. The Greek goddess or one shouldered look works amazingly well with evening wear and is again a really flattering style. This velvet assymetrical dress is simple and stylish, the velvet adds a touch of luxury.
The Maxi dress
A maxi length dress that skims the floor is another trend for 2010 that translates so well into evening wear or a cocktail dress. Most maxi style dresses are empire line making them incredibly flattering. The long length makes them good for slightly more formal events or those that like to get really dressed up.
The Strapless Gown
For parties that require a more formal style of dress, a strapless gown is a great choice. The neckline is simple and allows for a feature necklace to be worn. The bodice is usually quite fitted with the skirt quite full. A laced corset style strapless dress is ideal for getting the fit of the dress just right.
As with any outfit, when wearing a cocktail dress or gown, it is important to get the accessories just right. You should pick some elaborate accessories that compliment your dress perfectly including a clutch bag and some heeled shoes and perhaps a shrug or wrap.
