Do you sometimes feel that your outfit is lacking something? Do you wish that your outfits had a little more colour? Do you need to refresh your wardrobe on a budget? If the answer to any of these questions is yes then you could probably benefit from investing in a scarf or two this winter. I don’t mean the woolly knitted scarf that you wear outdoors with a coat, although they are great accessories too which certainly add something to your outdoor wear. I mean a thinner scarf that can be worn indoors to enhance your outfit by changing the neckline and adding some additional colour and pattern.
With all of the neutral colours that are about this winter, a brightly coloured scarf is just a great way to brighten up an outfit. You can tie it or drape it around your neck or even tie it in your hair, around your head or on your handbag. For small square scarves the best option is often to fold them into a triangle or roll into a long thin shape, wrap around your neck and tie at the side.
For longer style scarves or pashminas, the can be elegantly draped around the neck. These sorts of scarves are also great for adding a little bit of warmth to an indoor outfit in the really cold weather but they can also be worn over a coat. For the large square scarves with pictures or large scale patterns on them, they usually look best being wrapped over your shoulders or tied in a large triangle where you can see most of the picture. The most on trend way to wear them is with the point of the triangle at the front and the ends wound right round so they hang at the front.
When choosing a scarf, think carefully about how you will wear it and the look that you would like to achieve. A silk scarf has a way of draping that no other scarf does but it will probably need to be tied rather than just draped or you will loose it. For a more boho look you can choose a fringed scarf and wind it loosely around your neck letting the loose ends hang at the front.
Scarves can look great with casual, work or even evening outfits. Look for long beaded evening scarves to add a feature and a focal point to a plain black dress. You could even wear beaded scarves in the daytime to add a bit of sparkle to your every day life.
This soft luxury black and mustard pashmina scarf is the perfect addition to any black or neutral coloured outfit. It would also look great with the seasons must have camel coat.Â
This beige open weave light weight neck scarf is a great way to add some texture and interest to an outfit but to warm to wear indoors. It would look great with an outfit made of of different shades of neutral colours layered.
Whilst what you wear is really important, how you wear it is even more important. Acessories are an important part of most outfits and without them an outfit often looks incomplete. A belt is one of the most useful accessories that you can own for completely transforming the look of an outfit. A belt can change the shape of a top dress or coat completely adding and defining your shape, it can also highlight a particular part of your body drawing the eye towards it. Finally a belt can make a statement in its own right, perhaps with an ornate buckle or some sort of embellishment or just by being a contrasting colour or texture to your outfit. A belt can also be very useful for holding your trousers up and covering the waistband of your trousers.
If you are very slim but would like to create the illusion of having curves, try wearing slightly baggy clothes cinched in at the waist with a belt. Over sized cardigans will work particularly well for the winter with a belt over it to add some shape. You can also try wearing a wide belt low over your hips which will create the impression of curves.
For those ladies lucky enough to have an ultra feminine hourglass shape, a belt is essential. As your waist is the narrowest part of your torso, you should always use a belt to really define and highlight it. Go for bold colours and interesting textures like patent and snakeskin. Generally speaking well fitted clothes will usually look best so the belt will not change the shape of the clothes just emphasis the waist. If you do decide to wear loose or baggy clothes, a belt is really important as it will prevent them from looking shapeless and define your shape.
Empire line dresses and tops are incredibly flattering for apple shaped ladies. They highlight the narrowest part of the torso and the fabric gently skims over the tummy. Generally those without a waist should not highlight the fact by wearing a belt around their waist but wearing it a little higher can give any dress or top the appearance of having an empire line. A belt in a contrasting colour worn over the empire line of the dress is also a great way to further draw attention to this area which is very flattering.
Pear shaped ladies usually have relatively narrow waists in comparison to their hips so a belt is a great way of drawing the eye up to the waist and away from the hips. Boot leg jeans and a line skirts worn with a fitted top will all look great with a belt around the waist.
You can even change the look of a coat of jacket by adding a belt. Try wearing a brown leather belt with your neutral rain coat or trench coat for a really stylish look.
Everyone is unique and individual and the way that you dress should reflect this. Your style is completely personal to you and should not only compliment your body shape and colouring but also reflect your preference and personality. The world would be a very boring place if everyone dressed the same, your own style will make you different to everyone else and make you stand out from the crowd. Having your own style does not mean that you cannot follow fashions, it just means that you pick and choose the items that you love instead of following every single fashion regardless of whether it looks good on you. Your own style is some thing that you will look and feel great in. If you feel happy and confident in your clothes then you will automatically look gorgeous and stylish. But if you have got into something of a style rut and find yourself wearing the same boring and uninspiring clothes all of the time, perhaps you need to put a little effort onto developing your own style, it is really easy.
The first step is to find out the colours and styles that really suit you. You do this by reading books, magazines an watching television programmes about fashion and style. Once you have established the key shapes to buy for your body shape and the colourings to suit your hair colour and complexion then you will always be able to find an outfit that looks great on you. You can then use these shapes as a basis for all of your outfits.
Once you know what looks good on you, you can choose whatever you want to wear from the latest trends, classic pieces, vintage pieces or completely unique and individual clothes. You can begin to add some of your own personality by accessorising or wearing your clothes in your own unique way. Perhaps you like to clash bright colours or patterns or team neutral tailored jackets with some really fun accessories. What ever it is that you like wearing, you can put your own unique stamp on it.
You can look for inspiration on how to put together outfits in all sorts of places from magazines and celebrities, to street style and historical costume. It really is up to you how you interpret this inspiration and turn it into your own style. Think about how you will combine different shapes, colours and textures and how you will add interest to your outfits. Remember that sometimes less is more and you don’t need to add any fuss or accessories. On the other hand why not break all of the rules and add as many accessories as you can.
Pick out clothes that make you feel great and really compliment your personality. If you are bold and out going wear bold, bright prints. If you prefer to be a little more subtle perhaps opt for neutral colours and add just a pop of colour with a bright accessory or two. You can be stylish, fashionable and have your own unique style that others recognise and admire, just think about your wardrobe, plan a little and wear what feels good.
Summer is finally here and with its arrival comes an increase in the number of wedding invitations which are sent through the post. Everyone wants the sun to shine on their wedding day and as such many people plan their nuptials so that they take place on a summerâ??s day. Consequently there is a an abundance of summer formal wear in many high street stores, in addition to online shops. Therefore it is generally quite straight forward to find a dress or outfit to wear to a summer wedding.

However, despite the ease with which a dress can be found many women often overlook one key aspect when dressing for weddings and that thing is accessories. Often many women invest so much time in finding the perfect dress to wear that they simply forget to spend an adequate amount of time trying to source some wedding accessories to make their outfit stand out. Hats are a great wedding accessory and one which should be given careful consideration. Hats have the ability to really enhance an outfit and make it stand out, whatâ??s more hats can even make the simplest of outfits appear slightly more special and glamorous.

Moreover, there is often an unspoken etiquette at weddings that women should wear hats. However,  many women  often donâ??t feel confident or comfortable wearing a hat and as such there is an alternative available to them in the form of fascinators. Fascinators have become increasingly more popular in recent times and are very much accepted as the norm at most weddings. Not only do fascinators provide the same level of formality as hats but they also offer a greater degree of flexibility. Generally hats need to be removed after the ceremony in order to fully enjoy the reception and consequently careful attention must be paid to the hat to ensure that it does not get damaged throughout the course of the celebration. Fascinators on the other hand can be worn for the entirety of the day and do represent any cause for concern.
Both fascinators and hats should be given consideration when planning a wedding outfit. Weddings are special occasions which warrant elegant and sophisticated outfit choices and hats and fascinators can help to enhance the level of elegance and sophistication of an outfit.
This year scarves are one of the summers key accessories and can add some colour or pattern to a plain outfit from a t-shirt and jeans to simple day dresses. The summer’s light weight scarves come in all sorts of designs, colours and patterns from tie dyes and dip dye to floral, striped, tasselled and metallic or beaded. For smarter outfits the classic silk scarf is also a great addition. The great thing about a summer scarf is that it can add just a little bit of warmth for when you move from the hot and sunny outside into a cooler air conditioned building, shop or office. There are a variety of different sizes of summer scarf and depending on the size and shape that you choose, you can achieve lots of different looks.
If you are not quite sure how to wear your summer scarf here are just a few ideas.
Loosley tied in a simple knot
This works well with both large and smaller style scarves. It works particularly well with large scarves worn with strappy tops or dresses for a great casual look. Opt for bright colours to add a bit of fun to your favourite vest or camisole top.
Wrapped right around your neck with two ends hanging down a the front
This is one of the most popular ways of wearing a summer scarf. You can wrap as loosely or tightly as you like depending on the scarf and the look you want to achieve. Generally the looser the scarf, the more laid back the look. This works well with both patterned and tasselled scarfs. If you have a large square shaped scarf you can fold it into a triangle first so that the point of the triangle hangs down at the front and even twist the triangle around to achieve a more slimline and quirky look.
Doubled over with ends tucked throught the loop
This is again a popular and trendy way of wearing a scarf. It is the perfect way to wear a scarf with a coat with a collar as it fits neatly into the neckline. It is also great for keeping your neck warm on summer evenings or those cooler summer days.
Hung over the shoulders
For a scarf that has a really nice pattern or picture that you would like people to see, simply draping it over your shoulders is a great way to wear it. If it is a square scarf, you can or course fold it in to a triangle first or you can twist it slightly to give a longer thinner shape. This look works really well with slightly smarter summer scarves worn with a blazer or tailored jacket.
Double wound around the neck
Winding the scarf around you neck twice will keep all of the volume of the scarf around your neck giving it a chunky casual look which works well with plain t shirts and casual jackets.
Twisted and double wound then loosely tied
Finally if you want to wear your scarf without too much volume, twist it up until it forms a long thin shape. Wind it loosely around your neck twice and tie at the side. This works best with plain coloured scarves and those with very small scale patterns.
Remember with all of these ways of wearing a summer scarf, you can keep cool by not tying it to tightly. Keep it loose for that an effortless but chic style.
