Mums aged 40 and over are increasingly turning to their daughters for inspiration, according to research published in the Journal of Consumer Behaviour.

Whilst busy mums have no time to monitor the latest trends and styles, their switched-on daughters do: and therefore copying them is the quickest way to choose a trendy new outfit.

Whilst celebrity lookalike mum and daughter combos have been featured countlessly in the media, the new research is the first to confirm it’s a nationwide phenomena. It looked at 300 mums and daughters, and found adolescent girls were a key influence on their mother’s make-up, clothes and hairstyles.

The research, by an online retail network, found 67% of women said shopping for jeans was the “most stressful” shopping experience.

Of those, 43% said jean shopping was even more stressful than moving home – traditionally one of the most stress-inducing tasks.

Jeans are a timeless fashion staple – great for everyday wear and ideal for altering for going out.

However, as jeans have evolved, many over 50s have felt left behind – especially with skinny fit, hipsters and baggier jeans becoming trendy.

The best advice is not to panic – most people look great in jeans. There’s no need to buy small and try to squeeze into a pair of denims that don’t fit – go for something that you feel comfortable in, and let the denim do the work for you.

There have been numerous reports of people choosing themes for their parties but one which stood out to much of the media from around the world was one street who decided to wear 1950′s inspired evening dresses which added a certain amount of glamour to the occasion.

Up and down the country thousands of well-wishers put out tables and chairs to celebrate the wedding, which bought an element of pride to the country and was almost seen as a day where people could forget their differences and get along.

With people choosing to dress up for the occasion as well as dress down, the streets were a wash with colour and elegance, enough in-fact to rival any of the guests who received official invitations!
