When it’s your daughter’s special day, you want to look and feel special with her and stand out as proud mother of the bride. So, where do you start when it comes to ladies wedding clothing?

There are endless amounts of womens dresses available, but which one is the right style for the occasion?

As mother of the bride, a knee length or ankle length dress should be on the cards. You can even pair a skirt and top, but make sure that the length is appropriate and you feel comfortable.

For a winter wedding, you may be able to get hold of a matching jacket for your dress; this will look appropriate and keep you warm for outdoor photographs, and can be taken off indoors.

For women conscious of the top of their arms, you can cover up in winter or summer with a bolero or light weight shrug.

For a summer wedding, a sun dress would look great, if you are comfortable in bright colours you could dare to wear a bold coloured summer dress or floral print sun dress, which would be great for a garden wedding.

If you are looking for something to help sculpt your waist, a thick belt may be too harsh. Instead, try tying round some ribbon as a waist belt – you could even have it made in advance to match the colours of the wedding.

If you are looking for an ultra glamorous look, there are lots of glam maxi dresses out that are appropriate for special occasions. They also hide your legs and can also look great on plus-sized women.

Other things to bear in mind are the location and style of the wedding; if it is a church wedding, bear in mind how the bride wants the wedding to look, a low cut strapless dress may not be appropriate.

What you wear says a lot about you. The problem is not feeling uncomfortable in your skin over the age of 50, but finding wearable, modern clothes that fit your lifestyle and suit your figure and personality.

Many fashion experts believe that womens clothing is ageless, but when you’re sifting through one hundred clothes racks to find something suitable it’s no consolation.

Fashion magazines aren’t much help either, as many publications ignore women over a certain age. About.com, recently noted an issue of Vogue claimed to solve the age issue by showing what to wear from “17 to 70″. The magazine showed a ball gown that could be worn by a 60-year-old; the only problem was that the model wearing it was 23.

Not everyone is blessed with toned forearms and flat stomachs, so shopping for teenage clothing simply isn’t an option. However, it is possible to find fresh and current looks to suit the older woman.

You can dress sexy without revealing all your body parts. This can be achieved by showing your sensuality with fine fabrics and rich colours. Handbags are usually a big giveaway to your age. Look for lively colours and different shapes which fit under the armpit, as these are generally the most flattering. Match the handbag with bright coloured shoes to complete the outfit, and remember to accessorise.

Whether it be a late lunch, dinner or a weekend away, fashion is more important to us than ever on Valentine’s Day no matter if you are single or taken.

It certainly isn’t integral that you wear red on this day of love (unless you are especially enthusiastic) so follow these simple tips to our fashionable Valentine’s wardrobe.

If you are off on a Valentine’s lunch, a sophisticated and effortless look will make sure that you look elegant.

Short dresses are definitely a ‘no-go’ on a lunch date, whether you are in your 20′s or 50′s. Instead, choose a mid length dress that sits at the knee. Choosing shift material womens dresses means that you can dress up the outfit with a waist belt and hide any lumps and bumps!

You may choose to pair it with tights and heels or go bare legged. If you don’t feel comfortable in heels you may choose to wear some winter wedges with your dress – and if you want to look casual/ smart, you could pair some slim fitting jeans with heels and a blazer.

It is important that you feel confident in your outfit, as it will relax you and make you feel confident with your date.

If you have been invited to a dinner date, make sure you know the style of the restaurant before you plan your outfit.

Keep in mind whether you may head out for drinks after; if so you can be more daring with your outfit and choose a slimmer fitting, shorter dress such as a off the shoulder evening dress.

The most important thing is to dress for your shape and feel confident in your outfit on Valentine’s Day.

According to a survey by Saga magazine, almost 75% of women over 50 still wear high heels and fashionable clothing.

“The boundaries of ageing have changed beyond all recognition,” Saga’s Emma Soames, who commissioned the survey, told the Daily Mail. “The sensible flat shoe is no longer the footwear of choice by older women who still like to dress fashionably and smartly until well into their seventies.”

The survey revealed that older women tend to avoid the highest of heels, with just 2% daring to wear a five inch heel. The most popular type, worn by 73% of those polled, is the comfortable court shoe, followed by kitten heels with 30% and stilettos worn by 10% of the 4,400 women surveyed.

The Mail speculates that the popularity of heels for older-50s is due to the glamorous, more mature celebrities like Helen Mirren and Jane Fonda seen stepping out in them, as well as the popularity of shoe-obsessed characters on programs like Sex and the City.

â??The boundaries of ageing have changed beyond all recognitionâ?, continues Emma Soames.

â??Older role models reflect the style that older women like to project. High heels are just part of the package.â? she said.

As women get older, disguising problem areas becomes a skill as they automatically try and cover up too much and lose their best bits under baggy, unflattering clothing.

The most common areas that women want to hide or disguise are:

Flabby upper arms/ bingo wings

Large tummy

Large bottom/hips

The neck

A few simple tips can easily disguise these areas leaving you free to enhance the bits you love.

Bingo wings can be hidden with a flattering ¾ length top or shirt. By exposing the slimmest part of the arm, your eye is tricked into thinking you have long, slender limbs.

If you think your stomach is better hidden under a baggy shirt then think again. Invest in a couple of wrap dresses as these disguise your tummy whilst pulling in your waist giving you a gorgeous silhouette.

Disguise a large bottom or wide hips by wearing dark colours on your bottom half which dramatically slims you down. As do wide legged trousers and flared skirts finishing at the knee.

‘Turkey necks’ and loose skin significantly age women, even when their face is relatively wrinkle free. To disguise this area, cowl or polo neck jumpers are great, but be sure they are not too tight as this can make your neck look shorter.

So whether you have great legs but a less than perfect tummy or you have toned arms but can’t stand your big bum, there is a fashion solution out there to help you.
