Style Tips for Petites
If you have a petite frame, it is important to choose the correct clothes to flatter your body. Ladies who come under the category of petite, are usually around 5’4â? or under. This height is probably more common than you think, which is why more designers are bringing out their own range of petite clothing.
The first thing you should consider is your body shape. This is especially true for petite frames, as you want to concentrate attention on the slimmer areas of your body, and draw attention away from the larger areas. You need to make sure your clothes fit well. If you wear clothes which are too big for your frame, you will just make your body look smaller. You don’t want to wear clothes which will drown you, so if you find trousers you love but are too long for your frame, then it’s well worth investing in some tailoring to make sure they fit you perfectly.
When it comes to prints and patterns, smaller is always better. Large prints will over power your body and will even make you look shorter than you are. Vertical prints are ideal for a petite frame, cable patterns and vertical pleats will flatter your figure. Light materials such as cotton and linen are also better for smaller ladies. Be careful not to wear too much layering as this will make you look a bit drowned out.
Try to make sure the length of your sleeves is about ¾ length. If you wear sleeves which go beyond your wrist, it will not look right with your frame. There are plenty of choices for tops and blouses which sit at a shorter length, and these will do wonders for a petite frame. Cropped length tailored jackets are a style which will look great on smaller ladies and tight fitting clothes will also flatter your frame, but only on the areas you wish to draw attention to. If you have a slim frame then you can wear clothes which are tight fitting all over, whereas if you are pear shaped you are best to wear tight fitting clothes on your top half, rather than the bottom half. V neck tops will also elongate your frame, so these are ideal for petite frames.
Trousers which suit petite ladies are straight legged and bootleg styles. High waisted trousers are more suitable and flattering, as they will sit at a better length than low waisted trousers. Skirts should sit around knee length or above, mini skirts will also look fabulous on a smaller frame. Try not to wear contrasting colours, as this will take further length off your body.
If you want to create a bit more length, add a pair of stylish heels to your outfit. If you feel uncomfortable wearing heels, then wedges are a good alternative,as these are a bit easier to wear, but are also very stylish at the moment. These will elongate your body, and give the impression of longer legs.
If you choose to wear some jewellery with your outfit, it’s a good idea to keep it quite simple, as too much will over power your look.
