Clothes to make you look taller
Although not everyone wants to look taller (some people would even like to be shorter), there are many people who would like to gain a few extra inches in height either because they feel that their height is a disadvantage in some way or because this would make them look slimmer. Traditionally women have worn high heels to give themselves a bit of height but for some, this is not always practical and for shorter women very high heeled shoes can sometimes look a little out of proportion. But there are plenty of other ways that you can make yourself look taller without resorting to cripplingly high heeled shoes, although a medium height heel usually works well for shorter or petite women.
For petite women, looking taller is all about proportions. By finding clothes in the right proportions you can avoid looking shorter than you really are. There are also a number of clever tricks that you an use to trick the eye into thinking that you are taller and slimmer than you really are.
Amongst the things that will make you look out of proportion is usually anything too big, over sized clothes and anything too bulky. Clothes that are too long on you will also contribute to that out of proportion look. In order to look taller you should look for clothes that do not create horizontal lines across the body. Sticking to one colour of clothing is one way that you can do this. Some even wear shoes and tights and shoes in the same colour to avoid creating horizontal lines which cut the body in to separate pieces making it look shorter. To add a bit of colour accessories like jewellery and scarves can be added.
Belts, horiziontal stripes and pattern which create horizontal lines on clothes can all make you look shorter. If you do need to wear a belt, try finding one in the same colour as your clothing if you would like to make yourself look taller.
If you find wearing all one colour a little boring and prefer to wear brighter colours, you can still use patterned clothes to make yourself look taller. Generally speaking smaller scale patterns will tend to make you look taller, think polka dots, ditsy floral prints and animal prints. Vertical and diagonal stripes are also a really good way of creating length and making your body look taller. You can also create body lengthening vertical lines using long scarves, necklaces, v necks, long over blouses worn open and wrap style dresses or skirts.
The type of skirt or trousers that you wear can also help to make you look taller. A skirt that finishes mid calf helps to make the body look longer and a pair of straight cut or boot cut trousers is a great way of lengthening the legs. An a line or straight skirt will look good but anything too full may make a short person look even shorter. Cropped jackets and cardigans are also a great way of creating an illusion of a longer body.
